Anyone ever take the keyless entry pad apart? I would like to get rid of the green and swap it to blue or white. Thanks!

It’s surface mount LEDs on the PCB. Blue or white LEDs usually have a different forward voltage than green so that could be an issue. Otherwise it would just be a matter of carefully swapping out components.

Wear blue tint glasses at night. Penny Marshall used to all the time. Your asking for trouble taking that pad apart. My guess is if you do, you'll be back here in less than a week with some sort of electrical problem. McIntosh home stereo amplifiers have used blue lights on their amplifiers for over 60 years. It kills me when some company offers brighter led lights for a brighter display that's plenty bright. Besides how much are you going to look at that 3/4 inch x5 inch display on your door .Do like I do, and use your chip key to open the door. Haven't seen my lighted display since I left the keys in the ignition, and had to use door pad.

Haha thanks for the feedback all. I like to bounce ideas out on the forum before I go down a rabbit hole.

I also work third shift and have a lot of time to contemplate the finer things in life...

I've got to ask you Neil.....why? Seems to be to be an exercise long in effort and very short on return....I'm not hating, just curious.

jeff

I just think it would be slick to have it not green like every other car ever made. And I really like blue and really dislike green.

I gotta say, I didn't even know the keypad lit up. I rarely go anywhere after dark (now that I'm retired), and besides, that's my wife's vehicle. I have an F-350 with a keypad, and I'm guessing it lights up too, but again, I don't have any personal experience with it. Just sayin'.

They are all different colors. The F-350 I’ve been driving is just white backlit.

I have had mine apart(dead key). As posted above. LEDs soldered to circuit board. They only go on for7-8 seconds. The contacts get a little oxidized. A pencil eraser will clean them. I wound up replacing mine. I changed the puddle lights on my Lincoln. They are under the mirrors. They would look cool in blue. The Mustang has My Color and you change all the accent lighting, to taste. I like it red.

rjdelp7, how big a pain is it to get that apart?? I just bought a '16 Limited, and a couple of the lights are out. I don't care about color, I just want them to work!!

The driver side door panel must come off. Mine was attached to the door handle, with a round pry off fastener. The actual keypad, can be taken apart with a small screw driver. There are about six tabs. Ford may replace yours, under warranty. It is connected to the PATS/anti theft system. My interior lights were randomly coming on, in the driveway. It was the key pad. I had a stuck/worn out key.
