Learned a bit about the lane keeping / lane departure warning system that I would like to share.
Recently I took our 2018 Limited back to the dealer because I was convinced that the system was not working properly. The system has three settings; Alert, Aid, or Aid and Alert. I have ours set to Aid and Alert.
I was getting the "Aid", but not the alert. The alert consists of the steering wheel vibrating, letting you know that you are leaving your lane. My thought was that the alert would come with the aid, or prior to the aid, so you can make steering adjustments prior to the aid assisting.
Come to find out the system is setup opposite of that. When in the "Aid and Alert" mode, the vehicle will aid to keep you in your lane. It will only alert in the event that you continue to leave your lane, thus, it will be very rare to get an alert in this mode.
In the "Alert" only setting, the steering wheel will vibrate if you are getting close to leaving your lane. It has a tighter window in this mode than in the Aid and Alert.
Clear as mud I'm sure.
