Hi all. First time poster, long time follower.

I’m likely going to be purchasing an Expedition Platinum sometime over the next few months and one thing I’ve been trying to research but am having a hard time finding is feedback on the LED headlights. Most of what I can find online are links to retrofit halogens with LED.

I consider the headlights as an essential feature and they’re sometimes hard to test before buying. My wife has a Volvo XC90 with full LED and they’re awesome. Hoping that these are very good but not expecting the same as those turn corners and all that fancy stuff.

Any feedback from this group as to their quality and ability to shine?

Thanks in advance

Ford doesn’t compare to the quality of the Volvo. We have an Audi and the factory LED lights are amazing. With that said, I for one think the halogens in the projector housings work really well on the expedition but I’m a function over looks type. Try to take a test drive at night and check them out, easy to do this time of year with the days getting shorter

Personally, with better and brighter technology available, I would change out the halogens. Just not enough light output at 55 watts, no matter what the latest coatings or advertising campaigns claim. If you have to retrofit, Morimoto or Phillips HID are an easy option with huge gains. Again personally, I think HID headlight output can be very tough to top.

Our new Platinum’s LED headlights are great. Just as good as the 5500K HID’s in our Denali. Plenty of clean light.

Our Platinum led headlights work great also. Very bright and no issue with hot spots or cutoff.

This is great. Thank you. Provided there are no major concerns by people here that should be enough to make me happy.

Without my fogs on, I notice a cold spot about middle of the road, with the fogs on it reduces that but still noticeable.

My Platinum with LED’s is amazing on roads with no lights. I couldn’t imagine them being any brighter and being street legal.

The LED's on my Limited 302A are great! They were one of the main reasons I chose that package.

My factory LED's are pretty impressive!

I'm not sure exactly which headlights I have in my 2018 Limited. They look like projector bulbs (round dome shape). Today I drove to Helena, MT O'dark early... and it was dark! I had absolutely no issue seeing the road with low beams and the driving lights. Even with the hi-beams turning off the DL's, that seemed fine too, but I like having the periphery lite up because the Cervidae (Montana has the dumbest), simply cannot stay in the other quadrillion acres of land .

It would be nice changing the code and allowing DL's with the hi-beams - what many are calling Bambi mode.

2018 LED lights have spoiled me. Had them in my 2016 F150 as well. Much nicer than halogens or HID projectors.

I will be the lone detractor. I will say that they are just ok.

My frame of reference is our 2014 MB E63. It’s a night and day difference. I’ll see if I can take some pics.

Bill Schell,

Back in my CB Radio days on an overnight trip down Florida's west coast, a line haul trucker told me deer graze on the edge of the road grass because it tastes good. He was in the lead and was seeing small groups regularly on his nightly drives.

Oil, salt, whatever?

I have an XC90 and my wife a Platinum Expedition. I haven't done a direct side-by-side comparison but I would say the headlights are pretty similar. At least I have noticed any differences between the two when driving (unlike her previous vehicle which had terrible headlights).
