I had to tab over to page 8 to grab this thread back..

Well guys,… got the call about an hour ago. The dealership is ready for me to pick up my girl tomorrow.
I’ll let you know how it goes….

I’m kinda nervous… we haven’t seen each other in nine weeks… is it going to be awkward the first time again???…

Good luck!

I posted earlier about taking my 2015 Limited 4x4 in for a moan and bucking. I made a separate post, but the transmission failed while the technician was driving it (Ha - they were able to duplicate!).

When the problem began, the first appointment was 8 days away, at 8:00 am. The transmission failed immediately when the technician drove it.

Today is the end of the third week - and the vehicle is still not fixed. The dealer said they had to tear-down the transmission, take pictures, and send them to Ford for approval of a repair (initially told me they were putting in a new transmission).

My Ford Premium Care Warranty includes payment for a rental vehicle, so I’m driving one from the dealer (a 2018 Ford Fusion 4-door).

I’m betting it will be a month or more before the transmission is replaced or fixed. I probably won’t beat your out-of-service record though......

Where has this forum been? Just found it. I just got rid of a 2018 Expedition. Never got any satisfaction from the dealer. Transmission would search gears, rattle, throw system failure warnings and my dealer would say can’t recreate the issue. Had the cam phaser rattle from 20k miles on. It got worse and worse and eventually the recall came with 94k on the odometer. The wife hated driving it and it has turned me off of Ford. I still have a 2002 F350 that I love. Was in the market to upgrade to an F450 and had always wanted a Raptor. Fv$& that, I won’t get either. Bought the wife and ‘86 HJ61 and I put an order in on a RAM 3500. Maybe the RAM turns me back to Ford, but it’ll have to be pretty bad. Hope yours is good to go.

Edit to add: They did eventually reboot or reprogram the transmission? Seemed to work, but 70k miles of issues and raising hell once a month got old.

Three months is my longest stint in 2019. Followed by 7 weeks (ending Thursday 3/10/22).

My 2018 Limited Expedition MAX was in the shop (Sheridan Ford, Wilmington DE) for 3 months (June 2019 through August 2019). To fix the shade for Panoramic Sunroof. Let me type that again: To Fix The SHADE!!! They kept it the entire summer. On the Ford app I could see the vehicle going into sleep mode a few times. They claimed they had to replace the rails 3x. I was driving around in a Ford Edge loaner all summer. I think it was because their service people weren't very good. At the end they tell me they hired a new person who knew what the issue was and fixed it. Like that was supposed to make me feel good they had idiots working on it for 11 weeks?

And... The same vehicle just spent 7 weeks in the shop to have the front and rear differentials replaced. Different dealer though. This is after I've already had both front wheel bearings replaced in 2021. I currently have 70k miles on it.

Luckily I have the extended warranty from Ford (8 years/150 miles). My car is a lemon.

Good Lord! This is what scares me. Mines been really good, but I don't think I want to keep it long term. Maybe another year or two, pending world events. I don't know what's worse, the vehicle issues some are having or the dealer issues. If ANY dealer had my vehicle for more than a week, I'd lose my mind, request it back (if it runs) and dump it. Sounds like Ford has MAJOR dealer issues, and doesn't seem to care.

Well, I don’t know if it’s major dealer issues, in my case.
Basically, they are just understaffed and overloaded.
There were 6 cam phaser jobs in line ahead of mine.
ONLY one mechanic with the expertise to do the job.
(Fort Mill Ford just outside Charlotte)
There were 3 engine replacements (long block) also done while mine was there.

Fortunately (or UN fortunately) the parts shortage caused the wait time on my new transmission to be a REALLY long time.
So by the time they got my transmission replaced they were able to do the cam phasers. (Again..)

So I think it’s really three things.
—parts and supplier shortages
—lots of major engine and drivetrain problems being experienced by newer cars still under warranty.
—understaffed technicians that are inundated by the bow wave of work coming in.

Well congratulations!! You are the lucky winner!

Unofficially. LOL. I don’t actually have mine back, yet. I’m headed there in about an hour. So if everything checks out, my service trip will officially end at 72 days.

Good luck!!! I'm trying to nurse ours for the next several months before our new one arrives.

I know each dealer is different and I’m sure there are good dealers out there, but my local dealer is the biggest reason I won’t be going back to Ford. The 2018 Expedition was a POS, but it happens with every car maker. The dealer exacerbated the problem with general malaise and apathy. Not to mention the ridiculous dealer markups on in stock vehicles AND orders. These guys had it easy for a while and got lazy and greedy. Folks around here have long memories though and I’ve heard more than one say they wouldn’t ever shop there again.

Well, the good news is I’m driving my girl.

The bad news is they never did the cam phaser replacement because they are waiting on an intake gasket. Again the supply issues are creating long lead times on basic parts.
They replaced the water pump, the driver side wheel hub and the complete transmission (3 year warranty)

They will do the cam phaser job as soon as the part comes in.

In the meantime.. I’m on the road again. So far the transmission is flawless, smooth as silk… and d@mn!

I forgot what a freaking bad@SS ride this is.

Spoke to the service advisor today (now in week four of the repair process at the dealer). Prior to the service visit, I waited 8 days for the first available appointment too.

The vehicle’s transmission is torn down, but the work cannot proceed as the dealer is waiting for parts that are on back-order.

The service advisor said the parts should arrive in maybe two or three more weeks.

Another reason on my list of why I will never buy another Ford.

Yep, I feel your pain.

My transmission was in pieces on a table beside the lift my Expy was on—-for weeks—as they attempted to “fix” it. And finally, thank god, they gave up and ordered a whole new transmission (With new transmission warranty)

Been driving it for a few days now, and I have to admit. It is stunning. The difference in the way the vehicle drives and feels is drastic. I have no idea how long I have been living with **** performance, but now I’m fairly convinced is has not been right since the day I bought it.

The acceleration is immediate. No delay at all, as soon I apply pressure to the accelerator. Crisp. Smooth. Powerful. Absolutely seamless shifting from 1-to-10. No more feeling like it lags or stumbles when turning through intersections. No more (what I thought) was sh!tty turbo lag. No more harsh shifts IN ANY driving mode. No more subtle, odd mechanical rubbing sounds coming from the drivetrain. Totally silent, smooth and powerful. I am quite frankly amazed at how good it is.

I’ve not towed with it yet, as I want to put some stress-free miles on the new transmission first to let it get broken in right. But I suspect I will be equally impressed with the towing performance improvements.

Now, if Ford would do the right thing regarding the cam phasers and replace the heads with the new improved oil porting design….???
I would probably keep her for a long time.

As is it stands now, I will probably still sell it once the cam phasers are replaced again. But somebody is going to get an awesome machine, with a brand new transmission….. and a ticking time bomb for an engine.:(

Service advisor texted me (too lazy to call) and stated parts still on back order for my transmission - now in the middle of week five.

Yeah, my second cam phaser job is waiting on parts (gasket). I have the rattle on every cold start, and some warm starts—even after they programmed the PCM with the “fix”.

At this point I’m hoping it will just jump timing and wreck itself so I can get a new long block.
That’s the only way I can see holding onto it.

I just got a new transmission that is flawless, so far. So a new engine (with the upgraded heads and camshaft caps) would be nice. But barring that, or a lifetime drivetrain warranty, I’m selling as soon as my cam phaser replacement is complete.

I was hoping to keep this vehicle for a long time but with this damm cam phaser problem popping up all the time I am selling at the 70,000 warranty on the phasers.

Throwing my hat in the ring as well. Mine has been sitting on the dealer lot since 3rd week of January. Just got the call today. Metal in the pan. They need to teardown the transmission to complete the diagnosis.
