Time to downsize. Picked up my 2000 Expedition XLT 4x4 4.6 liter a few days ago. I loved The Beast, but I don't need the towing power and off road capability of my '93 F-350 4x4 with the 460 big block on 33" mud tires any more and that 8 mpg is hard to justify. I've owned many Ford trucks over the years, Ranger through F-350, 4x2 and 4x4, '85 to '07, 2.3 liter through 7.5 liter. My favorite was either The Beast or my '01 F-150 Supercrew King Ranch.
The Expedition will be serving as my daily driver and pulling my 15 foot boat. I sold my 18 foot flatbed equipment trailer, but I'll probably pick up a small utility trailer for things too big or dirty to want inside. My ex father in law has had several Expeditions that I've driven and liked, so I went that direction to stay with the big Ford.
Dropped a whole $2700 on a high miles 2000 in average condition for its age. Bought it expecting to do some work on it. In the last few days:
Fixed a p0401 code - pulled, cleaned, and reinstalled the EGR valve
Repaired leaking EGR pipe
Rust cleanup on bumpers and side steps
Headlight restoration
Repaired power windows and moonroof - replaced missing fuse
Added a 2" receiver to the step bumper (boat trailer GVW is only 2100 lb)
Repaired trailer light connector
Replaced headlight switch
Next up:
Rust repair on doors (rocker panels are rotted out, can't do much there)
Repair left front turn signal (not the bulb, have to chase wires)
Replace assorted interior trim (dash vent, overdrive shutoff switch trim ring, coat hooks)
Repair exhaust leaks or do a cat-back system
Loving the truck so far, but it's a little strange - first time since 1992 I haven't had at least one pickup truck in my driveway.
