Looking at purchasing an 03

Hey guys, so I joined here to hopefully get some opinions on a possible future vehicle for me and my family. There's a dealership about 40 minutes from here with a 2003 expedition xlt, 66k on the odometer, single owner, great carfax, 4.6L V8 and the price is $9991. To me the price seems wonderful for such a nice looking SUV with the mileage it has. I don't know too much about these, or fords in general, so id like your opinions on IF you think its a good deal. I plan on looking at the car in person soon and test driving it, and I checked the stickies here for things I need to look for when I do. So, that's about it for now, please give me your opinions or any info you can on this, I hope to join you guys on the forums if this works out. Thanks!

Seems a little high for an '03, but I would check Edmunds.com and plug in the vehicle info to get an appraised price for your area. It is a pretty decent indicator of what a used vehicle goes for, but is NOT the golden rule.
If that's the asking price, you can always go lower.

I typically see '05's and '06's XLT's on craigslist for $10-12K. I saw an '05 EB at a Ford dealer by me with 200K on the clock for $7695. I know it's a lot more miles, but it may help.

That doesn't seem too far off for dealer retail. I would try to talk them down as much as possible though. I just bought an 03 XLT with the 4.6L and 100,000 miles for $7k. I know I had seen others cheaper but it was exactly what I was looking for. When shopping around one thing you have on your side, is not too many people are out looking for an SUV that gets 14 miles a gallon. I had seen some that when searching Craigslist, had been on the lot for 3 months or more. That is to the point it is starting to cost them money and a good dealer would cut their profit to get rid of something rather than potentially having it sit another 3 months. The mileage on that one is nice, but don't overpay because of it. My wifes Expedition has over 200,000 miles on it, so if it is taken care of they will last forever. So you may be able to get one with closer to 100,000 on it for a good chunk less. Just a thought.

Got my 03 eb 4x4 with 63,000 miles one owner at a ford dealer here in arkansas for $12,000. Its loaded with heated & cooled leather sun roof power fold 3rd row seats 5.4 engine & towing package.

I bought my '03 about a year ago, 65,000 in (what I would consider great shape) for $10k. It was a great deal considering the low milage (8125 mi/year).

My only recommendations:

-Check the A/C and heat on every fan speed and through a full range of temps (on both front and rear fans), see if it has already developed the annoying blower motor click in the rear.

-Open and close all four doors, tailgate, and liftgate glass repeatedly; then lock and unlock the doors. Start the Expo multiple times and see if you ever get either two honks from the alarm (when locking the car), or if the dome/puddle lights stay on. If they do it just indicates that one (or more) of the door sensors isn't engaging properly. Most folks fix this with repeated blasts of WD-40 in the door latches...I on the other hand have not been able to successfully trace or repair the issue (and am now abusing the poop out of my Motorcraft replacement battery warranty).
