I'm looking for a better set of aftermarket headlights. the OEM ones don't light up the road as much as my past cars have. I'm curious to see what you all have used and if possible I wouldn't mind seeing how the light output looks.

it has brand new bulbs in it now which did improve it slightly. I've aimed them as proper as I can which ended up bringing them both up where one wasn't even seated in the bracket properly I did the alignment with a half tank, someone with my weight in the driver seat.

this is my first vehicle with only one bulb for high/low and the high beam output with this housing is inferior IMO compared to the housings with two dedicated reflectors per housing. As far as hid goes, I've been looking onto the housings with projectors and on top of the price for the housings the ballasts are going to eat me up. I would rather go halogen for now as it's cheaper and I have had several vehicles with great output from just the oem bulbs.

I agree, light output isn't great in mine either. I'd like to improve it but I don't think an HID kit is the way to go in any non projector housing. I'm debating trying better bulbs to see if it makes much difference.

my problem with the stock housing is the lens itself seems to diffuse some of the light. that light could be better used in the beam rather than sent to some random point of the road or sky. also +1 on not using hid in non projector housings I could go on as to why not.

I just ordered projectors to put in my headlights. I used to have an Explorer. Ran with sylvania bulbs for a while, than hids with no projector, than hids with the projector. Without a doubt the projector hids were the best. Projector, bulbs, ballast, and all wiring can be had for around $150 and the retrofit was easy enough that I did it on my own. Only thing with the Expedition headlights is that they have to be clear, so you probably have to get a new housing as well.

HIDs...depending on ur sensitivity to will dictate the "blinding" factor...they dont blind me...the glare doesn't bother me...so I have no probs with them and had them in my oem headlights...light output was outstanding with no need of ever using high beam...HID will be the way to go and u can even buy aftermarket headlights with projectors if u r one of those that must have the projector in order to run hid...on ebay or amazon with hid and projector headlights...

I put in aftermarket Lighting headlight and side maker lights and installed Sylvania Silver Star headlight bulbs. I drove down to my parents who live near Hilton Head Island in SC last year at night. That setup lit everything up nicely and even better on high beam.

I simply replaced mine with a set off ebay. They are the clear housings don't have the textured inside like the stock ones. Used stock bulbs for now and made a big difference.

Do you have a link to the housings? Can you get me a pic of the beam output?

I didn't use the corners either so you should be good. I plan on putting HIDs in at some point to get even better lighting

Update: I finally got a pair, ordered these, got them in and aligned today before the snow hit again. they look great on the truck but the beam wasn't what I expected but still usable. I plan to put hid projectors in the housing in a few mos anyway so it'll do.

I will post pics of the beam pattern since I couldn't find any before purchase..

I bought my headlights here and they look like the lightning ones and light the road much better. Plus they have a 5 year warranty. If you are going HID, make sure you buy a good quality german set, not cheap chinese. Had an experience with cheap chinese. Make sure it's 4300K. And if you do put HIDs, make sure you DO NOT use stock housing. The stock housing are lense style housings designed ONLY for halogen bulbs. The beam will be useless and it will blind other drivers. The reflector housing (clear with the metal bracket in the middle of the housing) and projectors are good for HIDs. make sure you only use 35w for the reflector style bc it doesnt have a cut off line like the projectors. 35w on reflectors are fine because they do not blind other drivers.
