I may be chasing a couple old threads but i have a question Im hoping someone on here can answer. I have a 2017 el which i have recently bought Bilstein 4600s for the rear. According to a number of threads on here, this has been done before on a 15 or newer. I originally had the NIVOMAT rears which blew out (Junk). So i ordered a used set of factories off ebay from a 2015 el.
Here's the dilemma. When i dissemble the rear strut to remove parts i notice the shaft of the 4600 sticks out quite a bit further then the factory shock from the 15. When i assembled the strut using the 4600 the top spring cap/seat doesn't even touch the coil spring. Did you have this same issue?
I installed regardless and lined everything up correctly because once installed the unit is under some tension even with wheels in the air so it appears it cant come apart. WHat are your thoughts?
