The nice folks at Ford said it would be $600 to replace (the only do 2 at a time - 300 each). Is this something I can do myself with the existing key I have? Thanks

Huh. I lost one and the ford dealer did just one. I got two different prices from two different dealers. The cheaper came in just under $300.

Oh, and then I found the missing key!

I'm leery of he non-dealer sites that offer keys cheaper. I'd be interested to hear if folks have had good luck with them.

You can program an additional key yourself if you have 2 working keys, otherwise you cannot. The Expedition and Navigator allow up to 4 programmed keys.

I only got one key/fob with my new to me 2013 Expy.

I picked up a switchblade style fob from Amazon for $30 and a local locksmith cut the key and programmed it for $80.

For my 2003, I lost some keys and was down to 1 key, so it and new ones had to be programmed from scratch. I ordered the keys thru amazon for $25 for 2 keys. (Note: there is a number or letter on the key itself. When ordering replacements, this letter or number must match). I took the car to my locksmith whom I have dealt with for 20 years, and he ground the keys and programmed all three for $60. Took him 15 minutes.
If you do not have any keys. Ford can extract the key letter and code to have the key bround, and lock smiths have access. If the vehicle is older than 10, there is a place that locksmiths can get the code thru for $50, as Ford only keeps the data for 10 and sells it to that place mentioned.
By the way, for the Gen 2 expy, amazon had ads for one piece electronic key and key fob buily in, eliminating separate devices. Reasonably priced.

Plenty of locksmiths can clone your key in minutes. It will be a clone so you will have two of the same key not two keys needed for programming more but they both will work and start the car.

I'd be interested to do this while I still have two on hand. Losing one is almost just a matter of time.

If you've tried it, do you know if these instructions will work with the current gen Expeditions? https://www.transpondery.com/remote...mote-transmitter-programming-instruction.html

You can program a third key if you have two keys. You can actually program up to eight keys total. The instructions are on page 77-78 in the owners manual(third printing). Although you can program the fob, you will still need a locksmith to cut the key.

Programming a Spare Integrated
Keyhead Transmitter

Note: You can program a maximum of
eight coded keys to your vehicle. All eight
can be integrated keyhead transmitters.
You can program your own integrated
keyhead transmitter or standard
SecuriLock coded keys to your vehicle.
This procedure programs both the engine
immobilizer keycode and the remote entry
portion of the remote control to your
vehicle
Only use integrated keyhead transmitters
or standard SecuriLock keys.
You must have two previously
programmed coded keys and the new
unprogrammed key readily accessible. See
your authorized dealer to have the spare
key programmed if two previously
programmed coded keys are not available.
Read and understand the entire procedure
before you begin.
