Wow, I love my EcoBoost it has incredible power, but it is going to get me in trouble! I'm so used to the 5.4 downshifting and winding up before it started to pick up speed. With the EcoBoost you just push on the pedal a little and before you know it you go from 78 to 95 in the blink of an eye.

I went from an 07 with the 5.4 to a 15 EL last summer. Both have 3.73 gears. The 07 had the standard 3 upgrades (intake, exhaust, and tuner). The Ecoboost still surprises me how quick it is. The two things heard in it most is, I have 2 turbos and I'm not afraid to use them, and Hang on

Yes I am very pleased with it. I now have 2817 miles on it. We were at 1410 when we left on our trip so we double the miles.

We drove 1454,2 miles we averaged 16.7 MPG, and 30:16:10 hours 1040 of those miles were at highway speed and 70-80 MPH. the rest were combination city and highway. All said I am pretty happy with it. On the road at moderate highway speeds I was seeing 18.3 MPG compared to the 14-15 I was getting with the 05 and 5.4.

yup the eco will shit and git.
passing a person on a two lane, steady pressure down on the throttle and let here drop to 5th.....will hit 95 or higher in blink.
funny to pass someone then have to tap the brakes to get back legal....
still now after 13k miles...17.4

My favorite part of my expedition
It feels like Unlimited power
I went from a 07 Tahoe to this and it's not even close
The Tahoe would struggle at higher speeds, not the ecoboost
And I'm at 50 mph in no time
That there power band at 2500 rpm

I was enjoying it around town but you really appreciate when you spend 8 hours driving on the highway at highway speeds. :)

I agree the further I pushed the pedal the faster it went and it seemed that at 95 it still has more power to give and the RPMs hardly moved much above 2300 that I noticed. I didn't really notice any downshifting when passing.

We go camping and do some longer trips. 4 of us (Me, wife, 6'2" 17YO son & 21 YO daughter) and a Boarder Collie are very comfortable. Last December we went to Williamsburg Va From NY without the camper. 10 hours both ways. Both kids had their own row. Didn't need to stop for gas.

I have heard many times on this forum "the 3.5 TT was made for the Expedition" and I whole heartedly agree. Anymore on a two-lane highway, I lust for a slower vehicle in front of me to pass!! Drops down into 5th and you are at 100 mph before you know it. Love it!!

Haven't had a speeding ticket since I can't remember when.
Got a 2015 Expy El with the 'twins'.
Got a speeding ticket for 11-over (86 in a 70 but I know the officer was being 'nice' as I was doing more than that) that will wind up costing just under $400 for filing fees, court costs, deferred disposition and the other 'just-because fees' they tack on so as to keep it off my record.

Not having a 'muscle car' since our 2007 Shelby GT, we were looking at buying a high-powered sports car for playing but that pretty much killed that idea. I'm getting too 'mature' for such things as speeding tickets.

boost is a wonderful thing.

i moved over from naturally aspirated several moons ago... it just can't be beaten with today's computer controlled applications that can alter timing curve, fuel trim, and even valve events quicker than you can possibly monitor them...

one of the things you hear non-stop from the n/a crowd is "there is no replacement for displacement".... and i was just like them... but, yeah- there is. boost... figure it like this: a full atmosphere of boost (14.7#'s or 1 full bar at sea level) doubles (in theory) the air through the engine (and burns correlating amount of fuel while doing so)... on a 3.5L engine, that is equiv to a 7.0L engine, depending on the VE... so- to the "replacement/displacement" crowd, I say: "there is your displacement"....

on the flip side, you don't always need that measure of power- a matter of fact, you don't need it that often at all... which means that 3.5L engine is drawing 3.5L per cycle (if VE is 100%) and only using the fuel for it..... if stioch (14.7:1 air:fuel) that HALF the fuel consumption of a perfectly trimmed 7.0 (also 100% VE) uses ALL THE TIME.

Q: how can displacement be better in that case? .... A: because the torque curve is what it is and power is on demand, it really can't be...

that said....... i hear rumblings of a 5.0TT inbound, presumably based on the coyote platform?..... oh boy... that causes me ears to perk.

I was going to add a s/c to a newly built 5.4 SOHC 2v up until two weeks ago- and drop it into a 2000 EB I picked up... but I decided the kid would be better off in the EB and I'm selling her jeep, now... she'll be able to run that thing through college, which makes better economic sense.

Ford just dumped its CEO. Rumor is, its path of aluminum body trucks and Eco-boost, have been a flop. Aluminum bodies, can not be curved to a sharp degree. That have lead to boring, squared off designs. Cheap gas, have consumers wanting options of, non-turbos. and V8s.

Huh??

The rival fullsize SUV platform with its 3 brands, 4 different nameplates, (and one made-of-fail tranny design between the lot of em) has made a killing selling them big huge cubes with barely rounded-off corners....

And Ze Gehmans still sell the old square Merc Gelandewagen for eye-watering 6 digit pricetags, with no new generation or restyling for how many DECADES now???

The big-azz SUV market and the adjacent big expensive pickup market loooove their big hulking square designs.

...anybody who doesn't believe that can go to Korea and import a frikkin SsangYong Actyon. Which isn't sold here on account of nobody wants the dang creepy-looking thing.

Agree to all, the 3.5 has gobs of low end tq.
Its akin to driving the 6.0 or 7.3 it never down shifted, but just kept pushing.

i doubt the eco rumor...they sell more than any of the other engines combined. its the go to engine for the most part.
alum sharp edges...where have been hiding, ever see an airplane? seriously range rover, jaguar and many others have been building alum body cars for decades and they are roundish...jags are just plain gorgeous

I came from a Tundra with the 5.7. The ecoboost is quick and suits the Expedition well but still not on the same level as the 5.7. But the mileage is better.

Airplanes are not made from stamp aluminum panels. If you closely at a 737, it is patchwork of panels. they are glued and have double flush rivets. It is well known the boring styling of the F150, was driven by limitations of stamp aluminum. Ford took a Billion dollar loan/gamble on the EcoBooost. It was a cheaper alternative to hybrid and diesel. to meet Obama's 50 MPG C.A.F.E mandate. Trump has taken steps to reverse, the unrealistic order.
