Hi,
Air cleaner replaced by previous owner with a K&N CAI. There was a running too lean issue and he told by the mechanic replace the maf sensor. ordered a new sensor but OEM one came diffrent form the current maf on the filter. It seems a custom sensor because some hand writings on it like calibration date etc. we installed the new filter but idling was uneven so we put it back. but lean issues is same.question is: is it normal being different of this sensors? could it be reason of the running lean the filter because it is almost all open, cotton layer has holes too.i read some treads here about cracks on pipelin but couldn't have the chnace to check it but will do it soon.BTW is is a 4.6 EB 97
thanks

Have you pulled the CEL codes? And if so what are they?

Secondly, the lean issue is coming from most likely the ECU is reading rich mixture thru the O2 sensors, and is manually leaning the fuel and air mixture. I would like to know what the CEL codes are to give us a starting point.

The ecu will set bank too lean code only when it has gone beyond its set parameters in adding fuel or richening mixture.

If the ecu set both banks lean upon installation of K&N kit then it has to be leak between sensor and throttle body. Open element filter close to mass air can create issues with airflow consistancy across sensor but I have not heard of others having any issues with them.

Mass air sensors should read identical if it is the same sensor/model #/calibration.

I never understood the "Cold Air Intake" kits. In stock form, air is pulled from inside the fender where it is isolated from the warmer engine environment. The Gotts mod still incorporates this by maintaining the stock air draw placement but improving its volume. With the cold air kits, you are moving the engines air supply from the cooler fender area to the engine compartment which has no choice but to be warmer.

For me, it provides warmer air not cooler air so I have an issue with the name they have placed on these "improvments".

In this case, I would suggest putting your truck back to stock air intake configuration, thus eliminating this modification, and get it running good. Then if you want the looks or whatever of the cold air intake try it again but only after you have it running correctly as designed. Too many variables can make it very tough to diagnose issues. JMHO

Codes are P0171 and P0174.

i forgot to metion, truck runs on LPG+gas. It has LPG conversion which is common here and most European countries. It starts with gas, after a little warmer switches to LPG. It is manually controllable, i don't know for now if the codes coming whet it runs on lpg or gas. maybe both. i will check it today.

Those codes are for right and left bank lean. This would seem to indicate vacuum leak or leak after mass air sensor. The pcv elbow seems to be a common problem area on the expys so it may be worth checking out along with carefully checking for any other possible vacuum leaks.

But since your expy has LP conversion there are a lot of possible issues that none here likely have any experience with?!

It throws these codes only on gas, there is no code when it is running on LPG. I checked the lines but there is nothing visible ... searching is going on...
