We bought our 2003 expedition new, now it has 24000 miles on it. The problems we are having are :

*brake dust on front brakes are just awful

*Sometimes starting up there is a loud clonk sound in the engine, engine also sounds like its a desiel until it warms up. Dealer cant repeat problem!

*a couple of times now we will be at a dead stop and the truck will shake like its going to stall out almost like it were a maual would do. Dealer cant repeat problem!

*rubbing noise and feeling in the steering wheel and sometimes a noise when turning a sharp left.

*clicking in the doors when driving and in the dash "somewhere!"

ANY HELP FOR ME. NO ONE KNOWS WHATS WRONG AT DEALERS OR CANT REPEAT PROBLEMS....!!!!

First off...FIND A NEW DEALER.

1. You gotta deal with it or you can get some aftermarket ceramics and replace them yourself. I did and the dust is virtually gone.

2. Try starting with the HVAC controls in the OFF position.

2a. What weight oil and oil filter are you using? Use Motorcraft 5W-20 and a Motorcraft filter and see if that problem goes away.

3. Classic Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve sticking.

4. A lot of threads concerning the nibble can be found at www.ford-trucks.com in the Expedition forum.

5. Have the door stikers adjusted. There is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) concerning this. Which just means Ford has developed a "fix" for the problem.

If you can repeat these problems at will, then note the conditions when YOU can get the truck to that and then duplicate those conditions with the Service MGR present. Even if it is just one problem per visit.

Thanks Monsta, mine is having a lot of the same problems. So would all of those fixes beside the oil and brakes covered under warranty?

Yes. All should be covered under warranty.

The nibble can be attributed to many items. One is tires.

I have Bridgestone REVOS on mine now and the truck handles perfect and the tires are wearing perfect. Not like the Contis did!!

I didn't even realign the truck after the tires and they are stil wearing perfect.

The other cause can be a faulty steering rack. Mine I know is bad. The steering wheel shakes in my hand over rough surfaces and I can hear it clunking under certain situations.

I've only got 800 miles left on my facotry warranty, too!!

Unfortunately the brakes will not be covered under the warranty. You can get Duralast Gold DG934 brakes from Autozone.com. $30.00 out the door. NO DUST! You can order them online from their website. Lifetime warranty.

My problems have been A/C shudder when first starting up in the morning.

Rear Differential replacement 4 TIMES and front rebulid twice.

Drivers window regulator breaking (of course during a rain storm)

Good luck

I had each one of these problems + more with my 03. We traded for an 05. The 05 has been really good.

You have to expect this when you buy a 1st year vehicle. It is a LAW in the design cycle that it takes a year or two to debug a vehicle after it is in service. This is true with any product. The scope of all the testing they do before release of the vehicle can't come close to the testing the consumers do during owenership.

Too bad Ford has much more trouble on the first year than everyone else. They seem to stay on top of it though.
