I wanted to get a little advice before I go to the mechanic tomorrow. I don't want someone to take total advantage of me, so I'd like to at least have a working knowledge of what it "might" be.

2003 Ford Expedition
135,000 miles

2 days ago, check engine light came on. haven't taken it in yet to see what the deal is.

Today, it hesitated & went to a low idle when I was at a stop sign w/ foot on the brake. It also completely stopped when I left it in park while idling. It's getting worse quickly, very rough idle.

Later today, when leaving the stop sign, I pushed on accelerator & it didn't want to go, but it finally did. This happened another couple of times.

I don't know if it's transmission related (HOPE NOT!) or if it has to do with something else.

Does any of this sound like something you could advise me about?

THANKS!!

im assuming that it is shifting normal...

sounds like a fuel problem... when was the filter replaced last...

the EGR valve could be sticking as well but that normally is accompanied by running hot on the temp gauge...

also could be a coil has went or is going

get the codes and let us know what they are that will help alot

Go to Autozone, Pepboys, or whatever auto store you have around you and get the codes read. They should do it for free. Without that, it could be numerous things. Does sound like a coil or fuel related problem though.

Oddly enough, nothing has been replaced on that truck except for the a/c. I just had the belts & hoses checked two weeks ago & they are original & I was told they are in great condition. Never had a fuel pump, air pump, or anything else go out. I change the oil like clockwork, and that's all I've ever done. I will get the codes checked first thing in the morning! THANKS!!

took it in this morning & the guy said I had two hoses that were practically shredded. He has to order them from ford. So much for the last check, when they said all my belts & hoses looked great!
