Okay, I got everything together tonight after replacing the intake gaskets. First I fought it not idling at all but I had the green and white vac lines reversed. fixed that and she runs like she did when I brought her home. still has a dead miss :/

also, I believe the hose er, metal pipe, that runs from the water pump to the rear of the engine is busted...I should've looked it over while I had the intake off I know but I thought to myself: "It's metal, It shouldn't be leaking" so, knowing I can't remove the intake w/o re replacing the gaskets, I saw a workaround that involves a heater hose, coupling, a few clamps and a 90 deg angle adapter that runs this over the intake. I just need to get the pipe off of the pump housing..

the biggest issue is the miss..I am going to pull the injectors back out and turn it over and see if they are all spraying. Possible that one got gunk in it even though they were clean going in.

do you have a cel?
if so, what is it telling you?
we can speculate behind the keyboard all day, but not knowing what else you have done makes it hard to diagnose.

So the basics:
what year? Mileage?
when were the plugs last changed? COP(s)? a previous coolant leak on one of the COPs will induce a misfire, esp pass side 3 or 4 plugs.
Air filter change? MAF cleaned or upgraded?
Any other upgrades we should know about?

PanHandler.

My bad, 1997 xlt with the 4.6 and 275k, it has two coils, new wires/plugs as of yesterday.
no cel yet, she hasn't moved so she hasn't picked it up. I can do a power balance test to find the dead cyl later today as I don't have a readily avail scanner

EDIT: I'm sure I should be able to narrow the misfire down later, I just thought I'd ask to see if anyone had a similar problem.. Thank you all for your help it's much appreciated.

You can listen to the injectors with an Alabama stethoscope before pulling them out.
You shouldn't have to drive it for the cel to come on for the miss, give it time to register the failed cylinders.

FYI - the Alabama stethoscope is a stick

Alabama stethoscope is a stick, wow, this whole time I was using a screw driver ;)

I decided to bite the bullet and pull the intake off again without fully draining the coolant. before I even got it out I found the miss fire.. the left rear bolt grabbed an injector wire and grounded it I had to add about half an inch but I got it soldered, heat shrunk and tucked safely away in the harness. after I got the intake out I noticed right away a slow drip from the hard line from the water pump housing. A few mins with a hack saw and a few more trying to get the line off the pump I saw this, there is a pinhole there if you look. I didn't have a wrench to remove the brackets on the rear of the motor so I left the remaining hard line in place and ran a 5/8 heater hose and coupled it to the hose that the hard line connected to. she pulls hard and was surprisingly quick to burp the air out. got it pressurized with water and saw no leaks so I drained it and now have 50/50 antifreeze mix in it.

I am up to about $530 for this expy so far with 135 alone in parts. tomorrow will be spent cleaning her up and next week maybe I can get the arm from the steering box replaced.
