Good Morning! Thank you in advance for any advice.

I have a 2003 EB with overhead DVD. I am looking to add aftermarket Navigation in dash. So far the local shops have quoted me around $1200 to do this.

I am mechanically competent but don't have a lot of electronics experience.

Can someone provide recommendations for adding in dash nav that wont cost me $1000+.

Thank you

1) Price the head unit you are interested in.

2) Look for the user / install manual online.

3) Read the manual and install instructions to see if you can handle the install and wiring.

If you decide to install yourself you will need a soldering iron, solder, wire stripping tool, heat gun and heat shrink tubing. Do not use the crimp type vampire connectors, wire nuts or butt splices. There are also pre-made adapters that may work.

If you get stuck at some point either Roxy or myself can give you help.

My suggestion is to keep an eye on various places and wait for good clearance deals. Last year in June I picked up a Kenwood DNX-570HD, brand new from Best Buy. It was the 2013 model that they were just trying to clear out inventory on. It retailed for $850-900, I picked it up for $450. Crutchfield also usually has some solid deals on clearance. Both places will also sell the wiring harness and anything else you need for it. Good luck!

I bought a used Pioneer Avic 840BT last year. Comes with bluetooth, navigation, 7" touchscreen and lots of useful things.

Bought an adapter harness for Pioneer. Removed facia, removed stock player, installed adapter harness, plugged in new HU, routed wiring for GPS under dash where the alarm led is, routed microphone for bluetooth to sunshade and finally put back facia. Took me 45 minutes including coffee. Very easy to do.

You can buy aftermarket adapters for steering wheel controls. Dont know how to make stock overhead DVD work.
