Hello, everyone! I have been reading up on everything I can find regarding pulling a TT. The DW and I are making our first purchase and I have a few questions that I was hoping you all could answer for me.

The manual that came with my 2008 Expedition (w/ standard tow package) says the max towing weight is 6000#'s w/out WDH. However, on the next line it says I can tow a max of 9000#'s with a WDH. Is this realistic? The TT we are wanting to purchase is a Forest River Vibe T245BHS. The dry weight is 5350#'s with a TW of 785#'s. I also looked on the hitch itself and saw a sticker that says 6000#s direct weight and 9200#'s w/ WDH.

I am getting quotes to add an extra cooler to transmission and possibly upgrading the radiator and I have good tires. I understand the rear end is 3.31 and the 3.73 is preferred, but I don't know that it would be economical to upgrade at this point.

Basically, is this too much trailer for my Expy?

Thanks!
Eric

First go to ford etis amd enter your vin number You will get a read out of what all was on the expy when built.

Check your axel ratio and post it.

Second More important than knowing the dry weight, What is the GROSS weight rating of the TT.

Is the expy a 4X4 or 4X2

Yes you would be better with a 3.73 axel

Thanks for the response.

My apologies, it's a 4x4 and as stated the ratio is 3.31. The GROSS weight is 7501#'s.

Can the expy handle it YES if properly equipped. And another question I would ask is Can the driver handle it? What is your towing experience?

As I said you would be better with a 3.73 axel but the 3.31 can do the job. You would however notice a difference on mountain roads and different grades

Although there will be some on here that will say different I try to use a 80/20 % rule That is that the gross of the TT be 20% less than the gross of the TV in your case that would be 7200 Lbs so 7500 isn't that far off That's just my opinion as I like a good safety margin

Read the attached link for some good information
