New Expedition Purchase - How much off MSRP?

Hi all,

New to the forum. I’m looking to buy a new 2020 Limited Max with the stealth package and I wanted to know what price I should expect to pay. What % off MSRP should I try to negotiate? I’m seeing some dealers with internet prices at 10% off MSRP, so I figure there’s more room to negotiate. Thanks!

Gonna be different in different regions and based a lot on local supply and demand. Personally, demand went off the charts in my area (AZ). Consequently, I sought out a better deal elsewhere. I ended-up with a "hold over" 2019 Limited that had a sticker of close to $78K ...and got it for $62,500 (plus tax, title, license ...paid cash for that). So, I reckon the right deal should come close to 20% off MSRP.

The demand is thru the roof because the supply is super low thanks to the Plandemic!

You will struggle to find any dealer that wants to deal unless they are clueless or desperate.

Mine was 61k on a 74-75k sticker in feb. was best deal I could find at time, by a good margin.

My 2019 XLT with 202A package, 20" tires was $66k msrp and I got it for $50,500 before tax last year on Labor Day. As of this moment, no dealer will offer much than 5% off msrp since the supply is short.

Try the ford friends and family discount. I saved about $11k on my truck. It’s a limited max with some other goodies and sticker was $79k; but got for $68k with my military discount and dealer incentives. This was the only limited max they had and they were eager to move it at the time.

Yep...I did. Got a smokin' deal IMHO (if I can wrap my head around willingness to spend $60K plus on a fuggin' vehicle). I would have absolutely bought local and even would've spent a little more to do so; however, it was either bare-bones $55K XLTs, or $82K+ Platinums that were available in AZ once I was ready to buy. I ended-up buying from a small (but awesome) dealership in a little podunk place called Kemmerer, Wyoming. Frontier Ford / E&L Motors. Awesome people.

I flew up to Ogden, Utah from Arizona ...the dealership picked-up my wife and I at the airport and then we made a 800-mile road trip over a day & a half to get the new whip home. About four years ago, I was shopping a particular year and mileage Duramax (LBZ) and was prepared to go all the way to Buffalo, NY and drive it back to AZ (ended-up finding one near SLC, Utah and did much the same thing 4 years ago as my Expy...but did it in one day). My "guy" at my local Ford dealership totally gets it...and I still have a great relationship with my local dealer. I buy all my parts and OCI supplies from them.

So...in this "day and age" ...I think we're going to see a lot more of this kind of vehicle shopping. If you know exactly what you want, you can even shop anywhere in the CONUS and have it delivered.

Now...all THAT being said, I would highly encourage anyone seeking-out something specific to give Tony at Frontier Ford a call (866-939-7914). While I was there, I spotted the perfect truck for my dad (he's been shopping diesel, long-beds), and three days after I was there, he took delivery of a used pickup for his 5th-wheel towing needs. (Funny side story...my dad bought a brand new 1982 Buick LaSabre from Frontier Ford / E&L Motors ...nearly 30 years ago).

Tony (from Frontier Ford), has frequently commented to me that he can get whatever you want (might not be 100% possible right now, with demand), but I would definitely give that good 'ole boy a call and see what he can drum-up for ya. He's a small-town dealer that lives hand-to-mouth and works his butt off to make a deal (and his family has run the biz for 40+ years).

Yeah I usually end up negotiating a deal for a vehicle on the lot and then at the last minute tell them I would actually prefer to order something. Initially they cry and cry but I’m usually able to get them right around the same price for a custom order. Once they’ve shown their cards (in terms of how low they’re able to go) it’s really hard for them to increase the price very much.

I’ve never gone more than an hour away from me to pick up a new car but if it was going to save me thousands and thousands of dollars (after cost of air travel etc) I would certainly consider doing what you did.

no it was new. I was in it today and pulled the sticker. Just a tad under 74k. Probably have done better if I was local as they spent 1k on transporting it to me and taking mine back.

I bought at jc Lewis in Savannah. Another place that had competitive pricing was Brandon in Tampa. I had a hard time with getting them to get interested in doing a deal,,even though they advertise they are internet specialists.

I bought my 2020 about 45 days ago. Sticker was $69k and change, and I was given the option to take 5 years 0% financing and pay $64k, or pay $61k cash/other credit. Went with the $64k since it saved $5k in interest over the life of the loan (I put $10k down and didn’t have a trade). That was the best pricing I saw in Northern California (Bay Area/Sacramento). I shopped around a bunch and drove an hour and a half one way to get it. Some dealers didn’t even want to wiggle $3k because of low supply. The one I picked up had a Nov 2019 build date, so I assume it had been on the lot for 6 months and the dealer wanted to move it.

Thanks everyone! I have some local dealers with internet prices at 10% off MSRP, some a little higher, so I was trying to figure out how low I can really go. No one ever pays the advertised price, right?!

it wasn’t a deal because of that. It’s not uncommon to get a new car with miles like that on it. Dealer trade. Few test drives. Mine went to a shop for DVD player. Adds a few miles. Nobody will mark one down for that.

I actually bought mine cheaper than demos I priced. Some dealers are nuts.
