Hey Fellow Expy owners, got a question for you all. I just had a flowmaster 40 series put in place of my stock muffler, I already knew it wouldn't be as loud as if i tailpipe after the muffler make it any louder? Any thoughts or ideas?

Thanks

Scott

what are you asking? you got a 40 and you want to know if it would be louder if you got a tip? yeah it would be. the longer the louder. the tip is an amplifier so it will make it louder.

Panda, i was just wanting to know if i cut the tail pipe after the flowmaster will it be louder? I wasnt sure if I lose the sound as it travels through the pipe out the rear corner (stock location).

Thanks

okay got it. i was wondering the same thing, but as far as i know it will be louder. but also then you got exhaust pointing straight at your axle/suspension. i would do a turn down if you cut it. be louder and safer since all the chemicals will be going to the ground.

The Flowmasters get most of there "tone" from the tailpipe. If you cut it off it will not sound as good. The best thing to do if you are wanting it louder is due the rear cat delete ( as long as you don't have inspection, this will also free up some power on the top end but you will loose a little on take off ) and make sure to cut out the resonator in the tail pipe and replace it with a piece of straight pipe.

Does the size of the tip affect the tone also? They just put a small diameter chrome tip on, would i be better off putting a 3 or 4 inch tip on?

Definatly the small tips tend to make the exhaust "pop" a bit, if you put on a 3" or 4" tip it will give it more room to "echo" and give that famouse Flowmaster sound.

I am running a 70 series Dual 2.5" in and single 3" out Flowmaster with the rear cat delete, the factory Y pipe delete ( hence the dual in muffler ) and also got rid of the resonator in the tail pipe, and people are always complementing my exhaust saying " that sounds really good, what are you running ".

It is nice and mellow at idle but still has a bit of a rumble to it ( I can hear it in the house while it's warming up ) but when I step on it, it gets loud.

I want pics please. Does deleting the pre cats throw a CEL. If it does, is there a way to fix it?

most of the time it doesnt. but some people says it does. but what will throw a code is if you delete all 4 cats.

Yeah if you only get rid of 2 out of the 4 you will not throw a CEL but if you get rid of all then you would.

If it does throw a CEL ( which it shouldn't ) the only way to fix would be to put in cats or have someone that has tuning software write a " tune " for the computer which turns off the rear o2 sensors.

Mine only has two cats and the o2 sensors go in to the top of them. There are also two more o2 sensors just past the headers at the begining of the y-pipe. Any info on that setup?

Didn't notice that you have an '05, so unfourtunatly the only thing that you could do would be to try and find some " High Flow " cats because if you try to get rid of yours you will turn on the CEL. If the computer does not see a difference in the readings from the front and rear o2's it will turn on the CEL.

The only other way you could do it, would be to have a " custom tune " created on a dyno that way while they are " building " the tune they can turn off the rear o2 sensors. I don't really advise going this route thou because the Modular series of motors like to have at least a small amount of back pressure or the get very " doggy " off the line from the tourqe loss.

i also have a rear cat delete and cut factory Y and ran true duals with flowmaster 40s and mine is loud... what year is yours? some years have the resonator towards the rear exit and if that is still on their it would quiet it down

So if i was to have 3" pipe after the muffler to a 4 inch tip would this change anything? or should i do 3" pipe all the way throughout? Hmmmm....to many options, cat delete? New pipe? Y pipe? High Flow cats.

Thanks for all you insight guys!
