hey guys, just found the forum. wish i knew about this earlier.

anyways i thought you guys might be the experts so id try you.

I have a 99 Expedition..ran great, low miles for its age. I had lost my license a few months ago so parked my truck. I then took the battery out so i could use it in a van for my band to tour with.

Well im getting my license back and went out to start my truck and just kinda check it out since its been a while.

I put the battery in, turn the key over 1st click and my speedo shoots to 60, my tach to like 5k, my heat turns on, and my wipers start going nuts. of course i cant turn any of these things off since the switches to them are already off. i accidently hit the turn signal and instead of intermitent on the dash i could hear like the relay buzz/screaminghaha intermitently rather than see it on the dash.

well i still tried to turn it over and once i did it killed everything once it was in the start position and made absolutely no noise. no starter clicks nothing.

im baffled as nothing has been done with the truck, so i guess it broke just sitting there..but help would be greatly appreciated.college starts monday and now im at a loss to how im going to get there...

thanks for your time guys...

Couple things. Was the battery fully charged when you put it back in the Expedition? Second (and I'm not trying to be funny) does Iowa have "critter" problems? At Denver Int. Airport there has been a rash of bunnies attacking parked cars. They chew on things plastic and rubber. I'd look under the dash and the hood for signs of rodent resisdence.

The battery is fine and is actively used in my band"s van and I put it right back into the van once I saw that I was in for trouble with the expedition.

Not sure about creatures messing with it..ill look around and see.

Anybody have any other suggestions? Anything I can do to eliminate possibilities??

Ignition? Starter? Solenoid?

Really need to figure somethin out because class starts in a few days for me and this is killing it for me...

Start checking the fuses, and not just the under dash and on the driver's side under the hood. Check the main fuses that are under that black cover on the firewall on the passenger side.

Other things to look at kind of depend on how / where you parked it for all those months. Was it in a garage or out in a field?

I thought I read somewhere that the security feature may need to be reset if the battery was disconnected for too long of a period of time, although I can't see how or why, but I think I read something about that when I googled an electrical issue.
