I think the pcm is probably good, yes it could be failing, but before condemning it, you need to do a good visual inspection for chaffing wires or Rodent damage on the harness from both sides of that connector...look under steering column and underwood fuse box...

Since you did check the grounds already...there is more than one off the battery

Thankfully there's no chewed on or frayed wires on those that can be seen without disassembly... That connector's wires are all still intact, most likely its the pins inside that are loose.

Update: it is just the pins that were not having a good contact with the sockets. Pulled it out, poked around with some copper strands, reconnect. Errors didn't manifest again till the end of the day. Let's see if it will continue to be so tomorrow.

Regarding the whining sound which goes along with the rpms, it's the idler and and tensioner pulleys. Its still the original ones, so the bearings are all dried up. We tried a wild idea, opened the seals, ball besrings were still good! Repacked it with grease and reinstalled it. The whine disappeared! Even when the a/c is turned on, which some forums have described as a jet taking off. The sound that remains is just the belt, which needs to be replaced within the next 1,000 miles.

One more item solved. Next one on the list is replacing the steering fluid with atf. Previous owners used the ordinary steering fluid. Also resurfacing the rear rotors and replacing the axle boots.
