Hello, I just picked up my first expedition, 2006 limited that seems stock. My wife wants some type of exhaust so it sounds a lot louder and sweeter with the 5.4 V8! I have no experience with this and have found flowmaster mufflers for $80-$100 online. Is this all I really need for that or a whole lot more for just better louder sounds? I'm not looking for hp gains at all, just a really sweet sounding expy. Please tell me I don't need a "cat back" or something else that costs$$$. Any advice.

I had a muffler shop just cut my muffler off, run a straight pipe and turn down near the rear axle. Sounds really nice. Cost me less then a $100

I'm not sure I want to just cut off the muffler and run a pipe, I have annual veh inspections here. But would cutting off the stock muffler can and putting in a flowmaster muffler or other brand give me what I'm looking for.

What the muffler shop did for me was cut it off, then they started it up to let me hear it. It wasn't that loud, kind of sounded like it had flows on it. They told me adding a muffler would just make it quieter. So then I decided on not installing one and going straight pipe. Maybe others can chime in on their setups.

Ok, I'm not entirely opposed to this idea then, as long as I won't get a hassle at veh inspection time. NH checks for safety and emissions.

I had my stock muffler cut off and a Flo~Pro muffler welded in its place. I can't remember the exact model# but it's their version of the Flowmaster 40. There is a fair amount of interior drone but I like it and the wife and kids don't have any complaints. Watch "05 Expedition exhaust, Flo~Pro muffler 2" on YouTube

I don't know if you've thought about an intake but that'll liven up the exhaust note too, I have a K&N cai on mine.

Don't just cut it off. It might not sound too loud at idle, but at higher RPMs it's really bad and you can get noise violation tickets. It's annoying. I like flowmaster, but others on here like other brands. Most muffler manufacturers have sound clips you can hear before buying.

I ended up ordering a flowmaster super 40. Can't wait to let you know how it sounds.

I will video it tonight on my ipad and see if I can upload it. I've never done video upload so we'll see. Probably won't be until 730pm or so though, my wife will have it. It sounds great now!
