Hey y'all, new expedition owner here which also means im the FNG on this forum so sorry in advance if i ask questions that have been answered.

Getting started my brother and one of my sisters both have expeditions and a few years back I got to drive one and loved it! So after a long time later I finally broke down earlier this week and bought an 2002 expedition E.B. and im loving it so far. I just have a few questions

1. at low speeds (1-2 mph) if I crank the wheel against the stop and try to move it takes more throttle than if I only do a half turn, If i do get it rolling while cranked and let off the throttle it seems to slow down quick almost as if there is a slight brake on the system. It almost feels like the transfer case isnt fully split into AWD but there is no popping and the tires arnt dragging like they would when locked. is this just normal drag from the CV joints?

2. when accelerating under 1/3rd throttle or more there is a vibration or shudder in the rear end directly after it shifts into overdrive. My sisters expedition does this too. It kinda feels like a bad u-joint but the drive shafts are all tight, the more throttle you have the worse the shudder is when going into overdrive, conversely under low throttle there is no shudder. anyone else have this issue?

those are really the only issues that have me stumped so far. any help would be greatly appreciated. on a side note.. didnt ford know DVD players existed in 2002!? what in the heck am I going to do with a freaking VCR!?

Welcome to the forum Best advice is to browse the different threads for information and ask questions You will get answers. As for the VCR I found a nice DVD unit on e-bay that looks like it may fit but may require you to do some wiring

Get yourself a good meter test light and code reader they will come in handy. Always post the codes whenever you can as that helps others help you.

If you are interested you can get a good service manual on DVD at the following

Ford workshop manual on DVD. Can be obtained from seller "morpheousking" on e-bay. Cost about $15.00 Much better than Clymer, Haynes or Chilton and also includes wiring diagrams

Don't waste your money on a Clymer, Haynes or Chilton Manual.
It is well worth the $15.00 just make sure you get the DVD for your year as the seller has different DVD's for different years
They are for PC only, not for MAC

I had a shudder issue like that in my Explorer. Valve bodies in the trans were clogged, putting it into high pressure mode.

Shudder when going into overdrive is common from what I've heard, Do a complete service on the transmission including filter. It is slightly expensive due to needing almost 20qts of fluid, but worthit considering what it does to extend the life of the trans. If that doesn't do it, then some have had luck with an additive, but try servicing first.

The drag is due to the AWD system and is completely normal, if you look in my sig there's a link to the "brown Wore Mod" that interrupts the signal to the AWD clutch in the transfer case allowing 2wd mode and no drag during turns. This will take care of it but disable AWD until the switch is on. I like the added control :)

Welcome!
