Have 03 Expy with 145k on it. Had spark plug coil issue a couple of weeks ago on road trip. Took to Ford dealer in Carson City, NV to have checked out. Was told that in addition to spark plug issue their inspection revealed the need to replace the PCM as one of the cylinders is misfiring? The PCM isn't a ford part and takes about 2 weeks to get and 1500 to replace (part and labor). I passed on this and they somehow re-routed so this mis-firing cylinder wouldn't get fuel and I could get my truck back on the road for the 10 hour trek back to San Diego. Now that it's home in SD trying to figure out what I should do. Truck is running rough, but running. Is this PCM replacement legit?

First off, welcome to the forum

Secondly, sorry to hear about the difficulties your ran into while on the road, but good that you didn't get stranded somewhere.

Sorry, I don't know enough to answer your question, but would suggest you post up these details in the 'Engine' section of the forum. I suspect you will have a better shot at getting an answer in there.

If the dealer disconnected injector and cop on that cylinder it would keep it from firing but the O2 sensor would get lean reading and add fuel too the other cylinders on that bank. Maybe they disconnected O2 sensor on that bank as well to put it in limp home mode.

I would take it to another shop and get 2nd opinion of course but if they did their homework they may be correct. If a cop shorts it can damage the driver in the pcm.

Used PCM's are up for sale all the time on ebay. You just need to know the year and read the pcm code off of your existing pcm to match it up.
