hey guys... not new to the forum as I was in the 1st gen category for a long time but made the mistake of getting rid of it with plenty of life left in it. So.. picked up a sweet 2008 EL Limited... two things that i noticed and will research through the threads futher but thought i throw out...

1) the power running boards do not activate with the door opening... or unlocking. They do work because i can hit the buttons and make them go down..but not automatically....

2) oddest thing... has nav system and the Phone button doesn't do anything.. i have read some preliminary info that states you have to have something (i forget) but just seems weird that it's a dead button....

anyway.... looking forward to the 3rd gen forum!!!!!

The phone button is one of the most misleading/frustrating things ever. It does nothing, and will continue to do nothing even if you have the OEM accessory I believe called Mobile Ease or something like that.

As for the running boards, do you have them in the Auto setting in the message center?

Congrats by the way. I've got a 2008 Limited as well (regular length) and love it.

Correct and incorrect. I have Mobile Ease installed and when you push this phone button, the audio mutes. Before Mobile Ease, it did nothing. We have the navigation head unit, so YMMV.

Its a redundant button though as when you use Mobile Ease, the audio mutes anyway.

Example of Mobile Ease controller:

Mobile Ease is still available, and its still pricey for what it is.
7L2Z-19G399-A is the part number, $350 to $400.

.

Can't help with the running boards, I don't have em.

Spotdog... they are in the off position. I had them on auto and they worked sporadically but the passenger side got stuck in the down position so I turned it off and got it raised back up. I have read that some have washed the crap out of them then lubed with lithium grease and such ..might try that.... at 1000+ to fix.... will just leave them alone I think... lol

You can try lubricating them, but the motors are likely on their way out. I purchased a 2011 in May and less than 30 days after picking up the vehicle I had to have the passenger side running board assembly replaced ($2K for the part alone). Luckily, I didn't have to pay for replacement. However, my driver side running board is now exhibiting the same behavior (getting stuck in the down position) and will have to be replaced as well. I'm in the midst of trying to get that one approved for repair (I have a CPO warranty).

Aside from the dealer's $2K cost (per side!), you can pick up an assembly from the junkyard for ~$1,500 or a motor only for ~$800. You can get a fixed running board for anywhere from $100-300 each, depending on condition, color, your locale, etc. Finally, and perhaps the best option, you can get a set of lighted Westin running boards new for $300. There's a little piece of weather stripping to fill in any gaps behind the board that runs another $30. Personally, if I'm paying out of my own pocket, I'd go with one of the fixed RB options.
