Recently bought a 97 Eddie Bauer expedition, the previous owner had an aftermarket stereo and amp installed along with a DVD player and headrest monitors. The wife wanted the oe stereo put back in so off to a nearby "you pull it lot" I go....found aanother 97 and bought the radio. I popped the cover off and luckily the aftermarket system had been professionally installed and the harness hadn't been cut so I figured I wss in luck. Pulled the rca cords and the boocoo of wires that ran back to the amp.....plugged in the oe radio and it came on but no sound. After saying a lot of choice words I decided to search for a forum and ask the expert's. .....what now? I always thought the mach system sounded great to begin with. Hoping to be able toi fix it myself just need to know what to do. All of the speaker wires from the aftermarket stereo was in one big bundle and ran back to the amp that was under the rear seat. There was one speaker wire that I traced to a kicker speaker mounted behind the right rear panel beside the jack compartment.......not sure what else to pass along but any help appreciated tremendously

Get yourself a copy of a

Ford workshop manual on DVD. Can be obtained from seller "morpheousking" on e-bay. Cost about $10.00 Much better than Clymer, Haynes or Chilton and also includes wiring diagrams

Don't waste your money on a Clymer, Haynes or Chilton Manual.
It is well worth the $10.00 just make sure you get the DVD for your year as the seller has different DVD's for different years

It will have all the wiring diagrams that you need and will also cover the running boards

All of the factory harness was intact.....figured I was safe to proceed with the exchange. I think I forgot toadd my running board light question.....they don't work. Bulbs replaced and fuse tests good, didn't know what I might be missing. I'll check into the dvd.....thanks for the lead!

which fuse did you check for the running boards also did you check the relay for the running boards?? If the fuse and relay are good then check the connector at the running boards for power

I replaced the bulbs assuming they were just old.....only found one fuse and I don't recall how it was listed in the owners manual/diagram.

As far as the stereo. ...the speaker wires ran from the aftermarket stereo back to the amp

Sounds like it was high level inputs to the amp. If you plugged the stock plug back into the stock headunit it wont work as there is no signal going to the amp anymore.

Took the rear right interior panel loose.....looks like the amp is plugged in.....no clue what to check next. Was going to see if possibility the speakers were unhooked at the speaker but not sure the easier way to access them.
