Hello!

Yesterday I drove 600 miles to pick up my new to me 06 Eddie Bauer 4X4. I used to have an 07 Gen3 Eddie Bauer so I'm probably the only one on here going from the 3rd back to the 2nd! I LOVE THESE TRUCKS.

Excellent information in here fellas. I have a couple questions.

Little service has been done on the vehicle besides oil and friction parts. I want to immediately do (let me know if I am missing anything) Oil and filter, Tranny fluid and filter, Front / Rear Differential fluid. Should I also do coolant ? Drain and change or flush? There is 142,000 miles on the vehicle (paid (4300 CAD). Plugs have never been done. Hard to pass up the deal on Amazon for 8 OEM plugs and coils for 160+tax. Prefer OEM but I'm not currently having any misses so I will keep the ones that come off in case.

Set of 8 Motorcraft Spark Plugs SP515 PZH14F 8 Ignition Coils for Ford Lincoln | eBay

My rear bumper cover is destroyed. Not sure if the sensors still function the Park Assist is currently turned off. I need a new Pueblo Gold bumper cover. Having a hard time finding any used parts in Canada so will probably have to buy new. Any suggestions where I can find or order one?

What else should I consider as I approach 150,000 Miles?

Currently going through the AWESOME 140+ pages of excellent information. Glad to be here and again, an Expedition owner :Rock on:

Buy a factory shop manual, you will need it. You can find both hardcopies and DVD's on ebay.

I recommend doing the plugs, but these are prone for breaking so you should read up on it and watch a few videos on youtube.

This guy (Brian) has a few really great videos on this, including info about the extraction tool you will need if one or more breaks.

Other than that, of course you can replace parts all over the truck, but it's not really needed until you notice signs of it getting worn. Standard maintenance should be enough. If you have a bad ticking at idle, that may be a sign that you have worn cam phasers and VCT solenoids, if you do go in there to replace those if they're worn, you may also want to replace the timing chain and components as well with this many miles. That's basically the only weaknesses that these have on the engine. Another weakness might be the fuel pump driver module which is mounted on the frame behind the rear driver side wheel. These can corrode and short out, causing no fuel pressure and won't even show DTC codes on the PCM. You can avoid this by mounting it on spacers to get it away from the bracket a bit, or if yours is already showing bad corrosion, you may want to replace it before it shorts out on you.

Thanks Skauber. No way I will be doing the plugs on my own. Plan to lift the boots and spray with carb cleaner or penetrating oil the night before when the motor is hot, day before the garage works on it. (Per youtube demo)

Currently no hesitation at idle or any rpm range; fuel economy is good er... as expected. No ticking or noisy phasers as far as I can tell (yay). But prefer to do it sooner rather than later. Garage quoted me $17 per plug and $58 per coil (gulp) so I will definitely be going the amazon route. Plan on OEM plugs and aftermarket cheaper coils.

Going to buy my own fluids and filters according to service manual and recommendations on here.

Rear Bumper Cover w assist sensor holes required.... Anyone have tips on where to source this? I can get an 03 Navigator Bumper cover for 40 bucks but I'm worried the particulars wont align properly (as well as different sensor holes).

I also have a 2003 Mustang GT 4.6 w 135,000 miles, no plugs done yet. Fun times ahead!

When you change the differential fluid, I would add motorcraft friction modifier... I would change the coolant and use the motorcraft brand. Also, I would take a look at the radiator supports for any corrosion...

Plugs in a mustang are super easy. they aren't under the cab of the truck like an expedition. I changed my 99 GT plugs out with no problem. Just make sure you grab a torque wrench and torque them to spec or they might spit out.

As for the expedition, it's not a difficult task to do plugs, as long as you have the extractor tool just in case then you'll be fine. I'm about to do them to my sister's 05 5.4 3v.
