Hello all. First time member here. My wife and I traded our 2013 Explorer that our family outgrew in for a new 2015 Expedition. Got a good deal on a managers special limited 4x2 with 3k miles on it. very nice, very impressed and happy with it. Been a loyal Ford owner for the last 12 years and still have my 06 F150 Screw and 06 Mustang GT that I love. This Expedition will make us a fine family vehicle. It has the newer 3.5 twin turbo ecoboost in place of the 5.4 and I absolutely love it. Wayyy more get up and go than my 5.4 06 F150.

I do have one question... as I am somewhat mechanically inclined and do all my own maintenance.

Its creeping up on 5k miles (which irregardless of what oil life indicator or book says is where I perform all my oil changes on my cars)

So I look underneath it to spot the filter and drain.... and all I see is what appears like a metal skid plate:think: again, this is NOT a 4x4 model so I dont know whats up with the skid plate.

appears to be no access to the oil filter or drain plug. After some Googling, I discovered that previous years (with the 5.4 engine) had a remote filter near the front bumper, so I checked there on both sides... no dice.

surely I dont have to take out the 2 big screws and pop off all the bumper molding clamps that are on this skid plate to access the filter and drain? thats gonna suck.. surely Ford moved the filter and drain somewhere else and im just overlooking it. I can take it to dads house this weekend and toss it up on his lift for a better look but I prefer just to do oil changes in my garage.

looking up the filter on the Wix site, its just a standard oil filter, nothing new or fancy.

anyone do an oil change on a 2015 twin turbo yet? How do I proceed?

Thanks! this looks like a great forum you guys have here, glad to be a part of it.

Maybe?

Don't know about the trucks, but my ecoboost SHO has a similar plate. It DOES have to come off for oil service. Further it HAS to stay due to air flow and cooling issues, especially as it relates to the AC condenser. So, no doing a way with it. The SHO has a few 'quick' type 'screws' to remove the plate. It's plastic.

Speculating may be the same for the Expy?

Congrats on the purchase. My next Expy will be ecoboost!

on my 04...its easier to remove from top then below...I have the skid and theres a platform for the oil to drain into and run off...it is so hard to come underneath to remove the filter...tried from top and so much easier...may be the way you need to do it
