No 4WD

Hi , I have a 2000 Expedition Eddy Bowers edition and the 4x4 Hi, Lo does not work. When the switch is turned to the first position (auto 4X4) the light comes on, the relay engages etc. But when the switch is moved to 4x4 H or 4x4 Lo nothing happens. I have removed the transfer case motor, stripped and cleaned and this seems ok!

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this or any further info or assistance??

I know it sounds strange but my 97 was doing the same thing. I had A4WD but no hi or lo. I disconnected the battery while working on another issue and when. Reconnected the battery and tried the switch everything worked. I haven't had the issue since.

Thanks all, am at a loss at the moment with it as the vehicle is new to me and trying to find my way around. Where is the GEM in the truck? Is there a set procedure for trouble shooting the system?

The GEM is underneath the dash on the drivers side. It attaches to the back of the fuse block. I would say if it were the GEM at fault, you would see other crazy electrical issues like windshield wipers acting weird, strange gauge happenings, and the like.

Did you test the shift motor before reinstalling it? It sounds like you just visually inspected it and re-installed it (could just be me reading your statement wrong). If not, I would pull it and put 12v to it to see if it engages or does anything. The problem you are having sounds like shift motor to me still personally.

A4WD is driven by a magnetic clutch, which does not require the shift motor to my knowledge. That is why it should work even without the other options.
