New to forum so bear with me.
I have a 2000 Expy w/ 4.6L
No AWD or 4WD. The "AWD doesn't kick in when rear tires start to break loose and when I turn the 4WD switch, there is no "clicking" noise, 4hi and/or 4lo lights don't light up on dash.

also make sure to test the fuses. They may look good but not make contact or work.
I would think that if the lights dont work and dont click or goes into anything. I would think the switch is not working. But with the A4wd not working. I would say that the actuator is not working.

Thanks for all the input.
Checked all fuses with meter. Never trust aging eyes!
After checking uses, I started with the switch next. Removed, cleaned contacts and reinstalled. Behold!!! 4WD works again but no lights are being activated on the dash. AWD works too! We'll see for how long! Just doest sit well with me when it just "starts" working again!

the lights could be bad. you might want to rip the dash apart and check out the bulbs.

I have a 2006 Expy limited and the 4x4 is weird too! My problem is I can't use the Low4x4 at all, the High4x4 light doesn't turn on, the A4x4 works well but doesn't go to Low4x4.
I check one of the vaccum, the one that select the high and the low, it works well.

Last week, the A4x4 was selected, I was in the middle of a parking lot full of snow. I wanted to see if the High4x4 works, so I just pushed the limit up to the edge and then a sound signal came from the dash and it was writen... high 4x4 selected. So on my side it works when the A4x4 is selected.

I just found that website (http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=123542) It is about explorer but it is still a suv with 4x4 problem.

There is also that website http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1022439-4x4-light-on-no-awd-or-4x4-4x4lo.html

For my case, I'll book and apointment with the dealer to find what is that because all work but not the the low4x4.

Good luck!
