No map lights and running boards reset to "auto".

Used 2011 that is currently getting a new throttle body installed. (See other thread on random stalling).

We've never been able to use the individual map lights. If you are driving and you push one of the two map light buttons, you get nothing. The only way to get them on is to roll the brightness dial all the way up to "on" and then ALL the interior lights come on, which is no good with sleeping kids or just driving at night, etc. If you stop, and open the doors they will all come one as well.

The other "electrical"-related issue is that no matter what we do with the running board settings, once the vehicle is turned off and restarted, they reset to "Auto". I'd like to leave them out all the time.

I once dropped my keys which bounced off the running boards and inward between the vehicle and boards. I reached down to grab them as I shut the door. I barely got my arm/hand removed when they shut. They felt strong and I don't know if there is a safety mechanism built in. Is there? (I've also walked up and put my foot too close to the Exped such that when opening the door, the running boards push out and caught my leg. I can't imagine my little girl getting her arm caught in there.

Have any of you experienced similar problems?

Boards can be unplugged if so concerned about them

Map lights, sounds like some combination of undimmable LED lights, rear switch settings on the trunk light (iirc, one of the settings sets em to wacky?), and a bad dimmer dial

Fear may be unfounded. Feedback welcome. If there is no safety built-in, it could be dangerous for a child.

No, i mean you can literally unplug em if youre worried about them defaulting to ON

Power running boards have anti-pinch safety built in - motors sense resistance, pause, and automatically reverse direction. Just like power windows. Shouldn't be enough to crush an empty aluminum can.

That they are designed NOT to crush an aluminum can is good to know. I will test it some time.

Can you expand and clarify on this? What and where is this switch? It could be related to an interior lights issue I have .(I've replaced the dimmer switch twice, still messed up)

On the running board, the are designed to automatically retract and reset to auto once the vehicle goes over 10 MPH The option you have is to turn them to the off position so they never deploy or leave them on auto.

As for the Map lights the problem has to be with the switch for both map lights. There might be a common ground or something that that is common to both switches since they work in the other positions.

I you really want them to stay out, deploy them and then pull fuse 11 located in the box under the hood.

It might be a software module that is bad. If you set it to off it is supposed to stay off.

One reason I don't like them is I'm tall enough not to need them and really don't want to wait for them to deploy.

But my wife and kids are the main riders, so I'll let them decide.

I'm in the same boat. Mt 09 had fixed ones, my 14 has power and I don't need them (I'm 6'6"). My 5'2" wife would never make it in without them. Plus, I feel like its just a matter of time for them to break.
