So, I purchased an OBDII interface and read the codes on both my Expeditions. What next?

I'm hoping that someone will be able to tell me "for the first error purchase a part xxxxxxx" etc. Also any fitting hints if that is necessary.

Anyway the error codes:

2003 Ford Expedition XLT

1FMEU15W53LA09319

P0405 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor A Circuit Low

1998 Expedition

1FMRU1761WLB61374

P0401 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected

If you can help Thanks .

For the P0401:

EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. It is part of the vehicle emmissions system, and is used to reduce combustion temperature and pressure to control Oxides of Nitrogen. There are generally three parts to the EGR system: the EGR valve, an actuator solenoid, and a differential pressure sensor (DPF). These things work together to deliver the correct amount of recirculation based on engine temperature, load, etc. The P0401 code means that OBD detected an insufficient amount of EGR.

Change the DPF first, it's cheap and most likley your problem. Very rare to have a bad EGR on a Ford product

I have a 98 Expedition,
I was going to purchase the things like the EGR valve.
My wife went to get the stuff and while in line an old school mate stopped her.
He told her changing the EGR prob wouldn't fix it sure enough it didn't.
He fixed it all it was on mine was the thing needed cleaning out.
cost about the same as buying the EGR valve.
I do it myself now.
