The 4.6 would have been good enough for most people too. But they discontinued it for a reason. Turbos may be great for sports cars, diesels and my wife's Escape. I don't see the 6 in my future. It's like insurance. You can't buy it when you need it. You can't replace your engine when you need it either, like towing a trailer up a hill.

The ecoboost is a logical choice for a heavy suv because of its very broad torque curve. The random loss of acceleration issue many owners have reported would be my concern. Hopefully ford has remedied this problem by now?!

All ecoboost owners I have met or heard from were very happy with theirs. Of course it has been at the track and the lightning forums so it was biased for those that tend to run them hard.

I still think having a 5.0 as an option or as the base engine would be better but don't hold the same opinions as others here towards the ecoboost.
I can tell you I have seen many run quite strong at the track for being stock.
Yeah a V6 will never have the rumble of a V8. They do sound a bit odd... lol.

There's a difference between running at the track and towing am 8000lb tralier though. A buddy of mine in Florida has the Ecoboost. He's happy that it can blow all 4 tires off in 4wd. But last I heard he still hasn't hooked a trailer up to it.

Had a 2012 F150 Super Crew Standard bed, big truck, with the EcoBoost in it. Towed a 30' Travel Trailer with it, about 8.5-9k lbs.
Towed the same unit with my Expedition.
No comparison. The Eco flat stomps the V8 into the ground and then some. Even changing the gears to 3:73's in the Expedition would not make up for it. Wish I still had the truck, but two large vehicles was rough on the gas bill so we sold the truck and got a Focus ST. Man I miss that truck.
Looking forward to the Eco in the Expedition, hopefully can find a way to make that happen.

My old boss has a screw with the ecoboost and loves it. He takes it to the mud hole and has towed with it and says he has no problems with it.

I would think they will. We have Thorntons down here and they have e85. We even have a CNG place here as well.
That's why I posted the above videos. It seemed to do quiet well towing 10,000 lbs up the mountains. The ecoboost performs well in the torque dept...

Watched the 2nd YouTube video - would have been nice to see the tach a little more, but my point about the V8 vs the V6 turbo is you have to push the V6 through higher RPMs to get the same power. In the video after about 7 minutes, you can finally see the tach. it's pushing 4K RPMs at highway speed. Sure, they are going up hill. I'd like to see the tach of a V8 on the same hill. At one point, they comment their MPG is about 2 MPG. Now - give me a V8 twin turbo or supercharger, then you're talking!
Maybe with a N.A. V6 but the turbo makes significantly more torque down low than a N.A. V8. That's kind of the point... The ecoboost actually needs less rpms to make the same power!! The ecoboost is only pulling those kind of rpms because it is towing 10,000 lbs not to mention the weight of the truck itself and passengers up a steep mountain incline . So it is dropping to a lower gear. It was also the only vehicle among the 3 that could maintain/accelerate up the entire mountain and the others do have V8's. The chevy a 6.2L !!
MPG at W.O.T. obviously will always suffer. In fact the more hp you make the less it will be @ W.O.T. More HP simply requires fuel. It's how efficient they are when not w.o.t. that makes the difference.
Before any modifications I had towed my mustang up some mountains to a track in Hagarstown MD. I can tell you for me to maintain speed up the mountain it had to downshift and was cranking some high rpm and I was only towing maybe 6,000 lbs. If she did not drop a gear she would be slowing down.

I finished watching the F150 video and then moved on to the Chevy. WOW, that was a little crazy. Definitely shows what you might be able to do with a programmer to change the transmission behavior. Bet the Chevy would have done better. But, stock, it's amazing what the F150 did with the ecoboost. The one issue I have with their testing is in the MPG arena - I'm not sure the computers are that accurate at calculating the MPGs.
Now that I think about it.....I'm pretty sure my EL was around the 2 MPG range when pulling my Travel Trailer up to Pennsylvania and I was in the mountains.

In contrast, the 6.2 Boss V-8 only reaches its peak torque output at 4,500 rpm, long after the EcoBoost V-6 has stretched its legs.
No to mention, the EcoBoost V-6 is even more pumped up for the 2015 Navigator; it makes 430 lb-ft of torque, just 4 (four) lb-ft of torque less than the Boss V-8.
