I have a 1999 Expedition XLT V8 Triton 5.4L. Earlier this week I had to take it in to a muffler shop. I understand that my vehicle has 4 catalytic converters. They removed two catalytic converters on the drivers side. Told me they could just put one in and it would still be fine to drive. Two would cost too much. The day after this repair, my Overdrive light flashes anytime the truck is running. I noticed driving home doing about 55-60 it stays between 4-5 RPMs. In town, anytime I come to a stop, it hesitates and doesn't want to take off when I press the gas. Turning in to work this morning - I had the pedal to the floor and it barely moved.

What I want to know - is this problem related to the fix on the catalytic converter. I'm going back to the shop this afternoon to have a talk with them - and would like some advice. Thanks.

Welcome to the site.

The only thing that comes to mind is if the trans wiring harness is laying on the exhaust pipe. Are there any codes or a CEL on?

Check Engine light has been on since I bought it a couple months ago. Was told it was an O2 sensor. Never had any problems driving it though until now.

The thing that screams clogged cat, is no power, won't go when you step on gas. Problem is you don't have any cats! Why also are you revving so high at 55 mph? I'm tending to lean towards Stamp's burnt wire theory. You might be in the transmission limp home mode, which usually is stuck in second gear. That would explain the high revving at 55-60. This is why I hate most Muffler shops, they screw up more than they fix. Let us know what they find.

Your first code is a problem with a shift solenoid, the second an oxygen sensor, the third torque convertor. They sure did a number on your Suv! Sounds more and more like some type of electrical malfunction. Personally I'd steer clear of that Muffler shop, and find a mechanic that's well versed in electronics. I doubt your Muffler guys go beyond an acetylene torch, and a sawzall when it comes to diagnostic skills! Let us know how it all turns out.
