Search for my thread on my Kenwood DNX-5140 install and it might help. I had to do some funky wiring to get it to work the way I wanted it to..

Hi, Im new here

I was just talking to a guy at Crutchfield 2 days ago, I have an 01 EB and I was asking if it was possible to change out the factory head unit for a Dvd unit and keep the factory TV and VCR. He told me they have a Harness for the 03 Which for you guys would be easier than rewiring, but he said no such harness exists for the 01. Im wondering if the rewiring would be the same on the 01 as your 03's. has anybody done this on an 01, if so any help would be appreciated.

In my '02 EB I have changed out the head unit with a pioneer cd player and also changed out the factory cd changer for a pioneer unit as well. The over head tv and factory vcr still work great but only for the vhs ( on the 1 gen's all of the power and everything is seperate from the headunit since it uses a RF modulator for sound and is not connected to the head unit at all unlike the 2 gen's ).

The only way that I know of for the fist gen expy to add dvd to the factory overhead would be to run a full set of rca's to the aux inputs. I currently have a set run behind the head liner to under the rear seat that way I can put in a stand alone dvd player on long trips and just run it from a power inverter.

Once I upgrade to a double din I will probably just get rid of the vcr and upgrade to a slightly larger screen since the unit I want has the dual zone capability ( music upfront and dvd in rear ) and I may put in a six disc dvd changer where the vcr was ( much smaller so you gain alot of room in the console as well ) or do a bit of custom work and relocate the rear heat controls to overhead and mount the dvd changer in that open spot in the console.

DVD Swap

Hey Proframer, I have an 03 that the factory Non-IR (wired Headphones) DVD player quit working. I bought an IR ready replacement (Factory Ford) on Ebay. It has the larger plug. Can I wire this in and get all the features the old unit had AND now use IR headphones?

Thanks!
