What would be the first thing to check if my rear driver side power window won't respond to my driver's door control?
All the other windows open and close with no problem.
The one in question does not move, or make any sound at all.
Would this be a motor thing?

More then likely its your window motor. That would be a good place check first.

Just remembered sometimes on different vehicles when the window motor starts to go, if you shut the door really firm ( like almost slam it) the window will work if you try this and your window works after that its your motor. Just keep in mind that if it does work after that it will be a temp fix till your replace the motor. Quick question.... has that window been operating slower then usual?

Does it work with the switch on the same door as the window in question?

Reply to moderator:

I will try the slamming today on my lunch break. I do not recall it running slower than the other windows, but it stopped working just 2 months after i got the car and i didn't have time to play with the windows if you know what i mean. Does that slamming idea also work for the rear window wiper? it does not work. The lady that owned it before me has paperwork stating that she had the motor on that replaced 2 times before.

No, slamming "trick" wont work on the rear wiper... When my wiper stopped working i had to replace the motor. I would check the relays and fuses under the hood for the motor since it has been replaced twice from the previous owner. It may end up being a fuse or relay or even a short/bad ground wire.

Have you taken off the panel to see if the motor for the wiper is plugged in? Sounds dumb but when i bought my truck brand new, i had it for about 3 weeks and finally i had to use it when it started raining and sure enough, the truck came from the factory with the plug to the wiper motor unplugged. I sometimes still wonder how they missed that.

The panel you are referring to is in the rear hatch door itself for the wiper motor? I have spent basically no time looking at it yet, because the cold weather has been discouraging. I think I will take time this weekend to look into this further.

Wait, so what does it mean if the windows are running slow, because my two front windows run slow, more so when it is cold.

Yes sir, open the liftgate .. see the strap thats attached to the lifgate? remove the 2 screws. The panel is easy to take off, it just snaps off but take your time so that the plastic clips that hold the panel in place dont break. If they do break you can pick some up at like home depot or something for cheap. Once you get the panel off you will see the motor, and if i remember its silver ?

It's a sign of a window motor going out.

slamming did nothing. Window doesn't respond to it. Could the window motor be completely dead?

If you have a mutimeter, you can remove the window control panel and check to make sure the switch is working, if your getting power thru the switch then the motor is more than likely dead. If not then its a switch problem or wiring, but at least you can isolate it. Yes the window motor can die and stop working instantly just like anything else. Not likely mind you, but def possible. I would check the switch first, easier to get to before you tear the door panel off and replace the motor. I would also check the power coming in on the wiper motor, you might be getting an overcurrent, causing it to burn out prematurely. I doubt that you would get two bad motors in a row, my guess is something is causing it to fail, but you never know.

Could be the master window switch as huklebuk suggested. My wife's Exploder (explorer) had the same problem, i checked the switch first, i took it out and took it apart to clean it and it had some debris/crap in it. I cleaned it out and then everything worked but im not sure if this is the same for the Expy as this has never happened to me , but its worth checking.

Interesting...my windows are slower when it rains.

Not raining = everything works normal.

i FINALLY got the window to work. It simply required multiple slamming episodes. :) Now all windows work. I just need to check the motor on the rear wiper blade, and the expy will be in great shape. Thanks!

Sometimes the slamming trick works, sometimes it doesn't

Glad it worked for you but keep an eye on it, your window motor could be on its last limb.

Don't tell me that they put the same window motors that are in the F-Bodies. :D I thought I was done messing with window motors, are they a common problem with the Expeditions?

ROFL... god i hate those damn window motors the f-bodies have..

Best thing to do is get one from autozone that has a lifetime warranty on it so whenit goes out (usually 6-8 months) they replace it for free. :D
