Howdy all,

Looking at Expeditions, online phase only yet. Have looked for but cannot find any pictures of what/where the new Integrated Brake Controller looks like on the web in the Expedition, yet. As luck would have it, my dealer has NO 2013 for me to look at either!

If anyone has a picture of one they could post it would be much appreciated! Just curious as to where they stuck it, and what functions it has as compared to a Tekonsha P2, etc...

I even read where you can have a 2013 Integrated Controller put into a 2011, etc... Not sure how valid that is, so if you know, chime in on that one also!

Thank You!

Msgtdan,

I don't have a picture, but I would guess it's going to be similar to the location in the F-150 since the dashboards are similar.

I have the integrated brake controller in my F 250 and can say it's the best brake controller I've ever used.

If the Exp is like the Superduty trucks, it will be very expensive to retrofit the brake controller because you will have to change out the master cylinder of the truck being retrofitted.

I put a P3 in my 2008 and it works as expected, but no way near as seamless as the integrated unit in my F 250.

Hope this post helps you out.

Here you go. I've been looking into this for awhile but came up with nothing as far as if it can be retrofitted into an 08.

I thought the Expeditions were already set up for the brake controllers? From what I've read I just need a controller and pigtail to connect the controller to the plug under the dash. I already wired in a 7 pin connector with the trailer brake wire.

The 08 Ex is prewired for an aftermarket controller, if the vehicle has the trailer tow option, but not the integrated brake controller.

Sorry about the confusion.

Is it possible to add that factory controller or is aftermarket the only choice?

That's the question I've been wondering since they announced they were putting it in the 2013 MY. So far I haven't been able to find out. My guess would be NO because I believe it is tied into the GEM unit and shows up on the message center. Maybe a reflash is required ? It would be nice if the wiring just plugged in to where the trailer harness is under the dash but i doubt it would be that easy. Either way I haven't been able to find the part number for the unit or the dash piece that houses it.

If anyone knows for sure please post.

Thanks all! Thanks for pic RI-Matt. Was curious to how easy it was to reach while strapped in per say.

Also, dealer had emailed and mentioned that Service Department said they could put an Intergrated into a 2011 for around $329... But, from what I read, it would be a master cylinder change to take advantage of ABS system, etc. So not sure what that cost would be really, quote appeared low for what may be required...

Plug n Play per say on a 2011 would run the cost of an aftermarket controller is all if Tow Package is already on a vehicle. Drill a few holes, if desired, mount, plug-in and go pretty much for $150 max on a P2.

Sounds like folks with the Intergrated Brake Controller like them, even if they can be more fussy about having full, no resistence contacts for signal purposes.

Thanks again all for inputs!

I'm starting to look into controllers and where I would put it. I've thought about using the panel like in that pic. Having a factory set up would be ideal.

For what it is worth, I have a 2007 model and mounted an aftermarket controller right next to the factory installed-plug that is located under the dash. It is right next to the hood release and is very visible (and accessible) while I am driving.
