Hey all,

new to the forum, just wondering if anyone has had issues with their power folding mirrors on these great trucks. If anyone has had issues, we are interested in hearing about them, we might be able to help out with some free, more durable parts to try out. If you are interested in helping, post back here, or just email me directly.

Paul at GruvenParts dot com

Thanks!

For the GM units, we rebuild the main shaft drive gear from brass (it was plastic, and continually breaking). We also designed some new hi-torque electric motors for them, and new motor worm gears so it can all be dropped in relatively quickly. You can view all that on the GM Trucks section of our site (Gruvenparts dot com). We could do similar for these Ford trucks.

If anyone has a power fold mirror unit they can spare for a bit of time, we'll dismantle it and rebuild the weak plastic components from brass like we did with the GM units. Just email me if you want an unbreakable power fold mirror, free. Paul at GruvenParts dot com.

Hi Paul,

I have replaced my pass. side heated power fold with one from kool vue. And it too is doing what the previous one was. That is it seemed the gear stops had rotated and the centering of the housing is now off. It is stiff enough that I can manually put it in position and it will stay until I get on rough roads. I had no issue with the labor of replacing, so I would be interested in what your offering.
Thx

Giving this a bump.
Anyone else had issues with the power fold mirrors losing their center point? I mean that they fold back out in to the wrong position. ie too far or not enough. I replaced 1 and after a yr+ it is acting up now too. I can't be the only one experiencing this can I?

Not yet but I just installed a canopy to park my truck under so I retract then open the mirrors twice a day now....we'll see how they last!

No offense to you but I hope that IF they are going to fail, they do it fairly soon so Ford can replace them for me!

I'm actually surprised as well and watched your thread when you first posted back in Feb...maybe the Ford mirrors don't break as often as the GM's do?
Who know....

best of luck!

I have had several instances where people have cut out in front of me because they "couldn't see my blinker" (upgraded with bright LED bulb but people here must be blind). I have purchased a set of motorcycle blinkers to add to the front side of the mirror. The idea is to give more visibility from the front as well as the side. The mirrors have LED blinkers in them, but only face the rear. I will tie the front/side facing blinker in to the OEM blinker, a simple upgrade.

This might be a worthwhile upgrade for a company of your expertise. I know there is a company that makes the upgrade for the F150s with the reflector in the mirror housing, but nothing for the Expedition.

thanks for all feedback here.

so drokmofo has a 2007 exped folding mirror he is willing to let us look at ... but i just havent heard much more about this at all. Ive been researching other forums to see if the Ford Exped has significant folding mirror issues but cant find them.

Im not sure if this is same as F150 fold mirrors, i dont believe it is as mostly the Exped parts only interchange with Navigator.

If anyone else is interested, please post here, or email me - [email protected]

Thanks, we will keep looking for interest.

My driver side folds correctly, but when folding the mirrors back out, the driver side will go past center and won't stop on its own until it's facing forward. I manually stop it and the center point and it stays.

Gents,

In the owners manual there is a procedure for "calibrating" your folding mirrors!

Loose Mirror
If you manually fold your power-folding
mirrors, they may not work properly even
after you re-position them. You need to
reset them if:
• The mirrors vibrate when you drive.

• The mirrors feel loose.

• The mirrors do not stay in the folded or
unfolded position.

• One of the mirrors is not in its normal
driving position.

To reset the power-fold feature, use the
power-folding mirror control to fold and
unfold the mirrors. You may hear a loud
noise as you reset the power-folding
mirrors. This sound is normal. Repeat this
process as needed each time you manually
fold the mirrors.

Thx Jeff, I have tried that with both pass. side pfm's.
What I have tried and it worked previously is to have someone engage the mirrors to fold in and out while I manually hold the mirror until it 'clicks' back into the proper position.

I've tried this several times. For me it has worked to re-engage the fold mechanism, but would still unfold past the center point and stop with the mirror facing forward. Fortunately for me it's my driver side and I can stop it in the center point.
