Every deal for the dealer is a cash deal period. Whether you walk in with a stack of hundreds, a check, wire transfer or finance with your own bank or theirs.
Not sure why people think it makes a difference to the dealer if they pay in cash.

I'm assuming sales guys get some kind of bonus or SPIFF if they get a customer to finance through their dealership.

Well I found a dealer not too far way willing to sell any 2018 Expy (in stock or ordered) for $200 over invoice. Much better than the Navis that are commanding MSRP right now and would definitely sway us to an Expy.

BUT, we drove a limited and we were not impressed at all by the ride quality. I could feel every bump in the road. Maybe I'm too picky? Tires were inflated too high? And I confess that I don't know if the unit had the adjustable suspension and was maybe set to sport mode. We're interested in the platinum trim and can't find one anywhere to drive, but we're hoping the ride is better. I know, I know...it's a truck! We've had a Mercedes GL550, a QX80 and a Sequoia and all rode better than the Expy limited. The Merc and the Infiniti may not be comparable to the Expy, but the Sequoia is and seems to ride so much better to me. I definitely prefer a softer ride, that's true!

Did the lmt have the 20s or the 22in wheels? Was it a regular length or max version? From both the ones ive driven, the expy has a slightly firmer feel than the previous gen. However, ive also noticed in the prev gen trucks, the longer variant had a firmer setup than the reg length. This seems to carryover to the new gen but admittedly the reg length mofel ive driven was a plat(ccd setup) and the max version i drove was a ltd. Both were 4wd. Either one was very comfy, but i was expecting a vastly superior ride than the previous gen and it didnt feel that much better.

So I looked up the window sticker of the one we drove and it had 20" wheels and no CCD which I understand is optional on the limited and standard on the platinum. It was a max, which the salesman said would ride smoother and softer, but sounds like he might be wrong. I left saying "boy I hope the platinum drives better because otherwise we'll need to look at the Navigator!"

I haven't driven the navi either, but I'm assuming from what I've read here from those who have that the ride is very nice. Someone on another thread described it as "smooth, quiet, powerful and soft". That's what I'm looking for. Might just have to wait for the Navi prices to come down...

I havent driven the navigator but I've also read here that the navi has a softer set up than the expy.

With that said, the ccd suspension would have the ride your looking for. I also like a soft ride and on smooth roads, its a floater, which i prefer. The eco mode also softens the ride even more but i think its too soft in that setting. I wouldve preferred to get the ccd, but i dnt want the 22s. I also noticed on some imperfections, the wheels woud pop slightly, but its only noticeable because the ride is otherwise very smooth. With the ccd, i would have no problem saying its the best riding in its class. I never driven the current sequoia, but ive read they dont ride as smooth as the last gen expy. The armada is the very close second. The 17 expy with ccd felt similar, a bit softer in comparison, but less controlled.

The ltd max i drove was far firmer, much more planted to the road. We didnt feel every bump in the road like you mentioned, it felt to me more controlled, planted, almost car like but i wouldnt call it soft either. The road we drove that one on was more varied though and a lot more cratered. The aforementioned wheel pop wasnt an issue with the smaller wheels but initial bump harshness is more readily felt. I will say a 15 ltd el i drove seemed a bit more forgiving on smooth roads, but again, the newer one is far more controlled.

If the truck you drive was rele that bad, i would say the tires were over inflated, or the springs need to be compressed a bit. I would drive a max with ccd to see if you like it, but as previously mentioned, noone whose bought either version has any negatives to say about the ride. By extension, the max version with ccd has been praised by all whose purchased. One guy said his purchased fx4 max is smoother than most vehicles he driven and the ccd was better. Another said the xlt max he tested was far smoother than his current grand cherokee, which has a similar ride to a previous gl450 i would assume.

Maybe we should open up a thread for those who have one to talk about the long term ride quality?

Continuously controlled dampening(ccd). Its fords modern take on their old air spring suspension and answer to magnet ride shocks. Ford offers them as a packaged option on the limited trim expedition and std on the platinum trim. However you have to get the 22in wheels bundled to get the suspension setup. However, i believe the current gen navigator has the suspension std regardless of wheel size so its avilable on the premier trim and 20in wheels.

CCD = continuously controlled damping

Quote: Expedition offers Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD). A suite of electronic sensors continuously monitors 46 unique motions. The damping system responds in milliseconds to help keep you confidently in control. Choose from three settings – Comfort, Normal or Sport – for the performance feel you prefer. CCD is standard on Expedition Platinum and optional on Limited.

dlcorbett: thanks for the info! I'm not totally ready to give up on the Expy yet until I drive the Platinum. And I'll start a thread for ride quality. edit: I see you did it, thanks!

We had a QX that I like the ride very much, although spouse disagreed and said it was too floaty. I liked this truck alot but ended up selling it because we had to drive 2 hours for service and that became too much of a hassle.

We got into a Grand Cherokee, but that ended up being too small for me.

Tried to move onto a Tahoe, but backed out at the last minute due to the buffeting issues which we experienced on a short test drive.

Ended up with a 2015 Sequoia which was to be a temporary vehicle. 3 years later, we still have it but continue to look for a large SUV with the ride, drivability and features we want. I still hoping it's an Expy!

edit: one of the things I DO like about the Sequoia is the adjustable suspension. I use it quite a bit. It drives small and I consider it to be very easy to park around town. It's missing too many convenience features for us including keyless entry, push button start, a decent sound system, heated steering wheel, updated navigation, rain sensing windshield wipers etc. The QX had the 360 deg birdseye view camera which was fantastic and I'm eager to have that feature again.

Pricing update from my area...

Expedition:
- Fully loaded Platinum for 74
- Limited with RSE is 67
I've seen about half a dozen new rides around town this past week.

Navigator:
- Reserve with tech and audio package just sold for 81, 6k off MSRP
Haven't seen any rolling around town but was told about 5 sold so far.

Since ive had mine dorman, i will say from your preferences, u should def go with the ccd option. Mines is a ltd 2wd without ccd and i absolutely love how it rides, but i do wish i was able to try the ccd before ordering without it. Me and you both like soft riding vehicles, the std suspension is soft to a pt. Its very european like, its very informative without being uncomfortable. To me, mines rides as good if not better than any vehicle i driven or owned outside, you guessed right, the ccd equipped vehicles. The ccd puts you on a cloud while the std suspension glues you to the road. Have you been able to test drive one with it yet? We are truly happy with our truck and outside of wanting the led headlights(the ride is great so im fine without the ccd), its perfect and want nothing else.

Bumping for some more prices paid for those that wish to share and empower those that are coming late to the game, or just still saving up our pennies before walking into the dealers to begin negotiating.

$78,473, 4x4 Platinum Max fully loaded (towing package, chrome rear view, rear entertainment, etc).. Every box was ticked. I had to pay some fees and tax on top (like the ford protect warranty extension for 100k miles w/no deductible at 2800)..

Ordered mine. Max XTL with 201A, under $59K out the door, including all fees and taxes. No trade in. No BS from the Sales Manager, very pleasant purchasing experience. Should be here in 5-6 weeks.
