Question for the platinum owners....

I've nixxed the sale of the POS limited 4wd that immediately gave me a list of issues after the dealer had it for 2 weeks.

I worked a new deal on a blue platinum Max 4wd with the light interior that was stickered for almost 82k, but secured the price at 71.1k.....

I'd drive from Texas to finalize the deal, being it's in Florida.

Major question is, what's been the normal off the lot price for similar described platinum max 4wd and is it really worth it?

The other choice is scrapping the expedition idea as a whole, and just get the new qx80 for her.

I love my Max Platinum. I believe each sale would be different. Depends on your negotiation skills, current discounts, and any addition rebates from Ford. Infinity is too small inside, especially in the back. Not even in the running for me.

We test drove cars for ~3 months. The QX80 came in third behind the Gator and Expy. However, it was a distant third.

Just do it.

I paid a bit more for my platinum non max, of course that was four months ago.

I paid around $76k for my platinum max 4wd in February. $71k is a great deal. And yes, the platinum is totally worth $76k (or $82k) so it’s absolutely worth $71k and a plane ticket to Florida.

I love my Platinum Max, even with ugly RSE. Will buy it again without a doubt if I have to. Owned Infiniti FX45 for seven years and was pretty happy, but family is growing - QX80 is smaller inside and outdated compare to the Expy.

Idk the QX80 seems big....I was parked next to one and it made my expy look pretty small. Seemed a lot taller and wider/bloaty to me than the Tahoe/Expedition. Almost looks too bubbly to me. Could be just exterior I haven’t been in one to gauge space. The 5.6L is crazy fast if you punch it....that motor is by no means a dog. I’m going to say go for the ford, but then again I’m bias.....like everyone else here lol.

I have two leases ending within a year of each other. Replaced the first car with a practical qx60. The second car will be due in a few months, and as much as I want an expedition/gator, a qx80 can be had sub $500/mo. I’m having a hard time finding a deal on ford/Lincoln.

The expedition will definitely offer more room and better tech. The 3rd row in the qx80 has horrible leg room, trunk is smaller, it guzzles gas and interior is about a decade behind (though quite comfortable). Despite Infiniti being a more prestigious brand, if I can score a deal on a platinum expedition, I’m all in on that as it is a better car

I just looked up the QX80, I agree I’m not a big fan of the interior for being a “high end brand”....don’t get me wrong it’s nice but still a bit dated. The interior and exterior both appear to have gotten a facelift for 2018, the exterior improved a lot and the interior marginally. I’d still say it’s better than the expy interior. The new Navigator has set a new standard for interior quality, nobody comes close...Cadillac and Infiniti don’t begin to touch it. Then again the QX80 for the right price is a good choice as your getting a lot and a nice truck for sub 500.

The newer qx80s really did advance the body design compared to the prior stated bloated body look. The original qx56/qx80 prior to the 2018s frankly looked like a hippopotamus for some reason lol.

I'm just torn/ and approaching with caution now having gone through issues with the limited 4wd purchased 2wks ago then returned.

Also, is using the x-plan code a good idea for custom building a 2019 if I chose that route?

I'd start by trying to negotiate the order with internet sales of all the dealers in a 200-mile radius first. Then if you can't do better just order w/ xplan from your closest dealer.

I got about $10k off of my Expy, xlt fx4. So I'd say you got a good deal worked up.

Do you have your 4x4 issues detailed in another thread? What kind of driving do you do in 2 weeks to know the 4x4 is toasted in s new vehicle? How do you get a dealer to take back a 2 week old Expy?

Also, it looks like Ford has finally come around and is wheeling and dealing with the expeditions. $10k off is what I’d expect if I went in and negotiated on one as well. Much less on a vehicle over 50k isn’t very good.

The issue was specific to when in sport mode as I only tried sport and normal mode.

With sport mode on whoch automatically puts it in 4A the car from any speed would pull very hard left and get even worst as rpms increased.

Bought it on the 13th, took it back to them the evening of the 14th. They had it for nearly 2 weeks, and literally drove it 70miles trouble shooting it. How they managed that I have no clue!!! At the end of the day, they did a right side alignment and said it had a right hand pull which it never did.

It was 100% straight as an arrow in 2wd mode, but would pull you into the left lane hard as soon as sport 4A was activated.

Once I saw the BS work order which I had to ask for documentation wise simce they weren't updating the vin in Ford's system I told them to keep it.

The way I was able to void deal was to hold on to my title. They were giving me 30k on a trade, 15k was down and cutting me a check for 15k. I had yet to receive the 15k check since I held on to the title. So in return their purchase of my trade was not finalized and that essentially voids everything.

Holding the title is something I was taught by a buddy/ biz partner who buys and sells on a regular basis used exotics and high end classic hot rods.

On a side note I have a horrible sense of seeing value.... his $450k Rolls Royce Wraith I look at and just don't understand it!

This was way back in March, but I had negotiated $3000 + $1500 in incentives on a Platinum if I ordered and was about to pull the trigger on the order after 2 months of trying to find what I wanted. But then found my Limited which had everything on it I wanted and they still gave me the same deal.

It seems the deals are good right now, should be able to do much better than that as the end of summer/ end of model year sales are going. I bet I could have saved myself another $4K~$6K had I waited until now. But also I tried that tactic when I bought my F350. Found one just like I wanted and it ended up selling right out from under me, then there were none left like it anywhere to be found so I had to wait another couple months and get the next model year for more money.

That title holding tactic only goes so far. Glad it worked for you in this situation, but keep in mind that if you complete a deal with a signed bill of sale and sign all the paperwork handing over your trade, they don’t absolutely need the title. It is a total pain in the ass on their end and could stick them with a car they can’t sell or trade for a few months, but if they have possession and all the proper paperwork and a valid trade with a new sale to you, that’s all they need to bond for a new title. But like I said, a pain in the ass for them and it’s probably easier for them to just make you happy. ...Which they should do anyway and I have never seen Ford not stand by their product and help a customer in these situations, even if the dealership people can be problematic at times.

My wife did title work at a dealership for several years. And being in a big college town, there were lots of out of state trades and missing titles/no titles. Getting titles was so problematic.... Lots of paperwork horror stories.

Oh definitely agreed. If they would've cut the check for 15k without getting the title I wouldn't have had any recourse. Without them completing the trade purchase in full at time of sale it basically washed it.

Here in Texas, specifically Houston..... the dealership title runners are the most hated people at the local tax offices. Literally take chairs with them, do 5 cars with the clerk since that's the window time limit, go back to the back of the line and repeat process.... EVERYDAY!

The transmission buttons were weird for about a week but now it’s one of my favorite features. It frees up so much space where a bulky shifter or rotary dial would go.
