I'd like to buy either a '21 or '22 Limited. It looks like all the '22s have the huge video screen while the '21s do not. Is that true? I really don't care for that big screen.

Any other major differences between the 21s and 22s?

This would be my fourth Expedition Limited, and obviously like them.

Thanks for any help…

The 22 model year was the refresh year so the interior dash and front/rear exterior design is slightly updated over the 21. The large center screen (15.5 inches with Sync 4a) is an option on 302a, 303a, and 304a Limited trims levels. It is not available on the 301a Limited trim level. So based on that you should be able to find one with the smaller center screen (12 inches with Sync 4). If you are interested in the all digital instrument cluster, you have to get the 15.5 inch screen option as it is included there.

There are many differences between model year refreshes. Mechanically they are nearly identical though.

Look them up.

Thanks for all the information. It looks like I will need to get the 304A version.

There doesn't seem to be many '22 Expys locally (MA) with low mileage so it looks like I'm going to need to travel.

FYI. The 22's are considered "covid cars" where they were impacted by the chip shortage. Depending on the model/trim there could be some items that were decontented.

Pretty much settled on getting a '22. Now I've got a question about the Timberlines.

It says they have a beefed up suspension system. My son's vehicle has that and it's a stiff ride. I don't plan to do any offroading, I have a dirt bike for that, so I'm wondering if the suspension on the Timberlines is a lot more harsh then on the regular Limited editions.

Anyone have any first-hand experience? How do you like the Timberline model?

it's not that beefed up. 90% of these do not go "off-roading", you can tell they prioritized on-road characteristics for drivability. but can handle non-paved roads well.
If you intend on taking it lightly off-road, i.e. non-paved, light trails, field, beach, etc. the Timberline will be better equipped, it does also come with HO 3.5 engine. But not available in Max size.
If you want a nice mix between mostly on-road with some flexibility off paved road, XLT/Limited, etc. will strike a biased balance.
Stealth 304a package is more aggressively targeting on-road performance, the red brake calipers give it 40 more horsepower, same as Timberline.
The Stealth (303a) has the same trim pieces as a Stealth 304a, except it doesn't have the red brake calipers, so you only get a measly 400 hp.

rd618, I am pretty close to getting a '22 with the Stealth 304A package. I have questions, and you seem to be fairly knowledgeable about these vehicles.

I cannot figure out how to send you a PM. How does that work?

How do red caliper's give it 40 more hp?

It's the raptor v6 engine, which has different components than the regular v6

I 4got who did it, but one of the guys did an extremely detailed write up of the difference btw the engines.

Is it really a different engine? I thought is was just tuning by Ford.
There are many similarities, but it’s more than tuning. As @dlcorbett mentioned if you search there is a write up on the differences.
The important question is more about spending the extra $4500 for ~40 more HP, dual exhaust, few more speakers, and red calipers. ESP when a good quality tune can net you as much if not better performance and fuel economy.

"I would either get a 21 or a 23."

For me a '23 is out of the question moneywise.

Why a '21 rather than a '22?

They are saying stay away from the 22s as there's been a lotta problems with those builds. The 23s have less supply and build defects. And 21s are last year of pre refresh, so most of the early gremlins of the 4th gen are worked out of those ones.

I have a 22 Timberline. It’s been nothing but trouble. I had the transmission replaced last week. Basically I’ve had 7 major issues with mine in the last year, and a dozen other issues that Ford refuses to fix.
