racket in the rear end

hello there everyone, i have i hope a minor issue that i cant seem to find a cure for, i have a 2000 expedition 5.4 awd and there is a clunking in my rear end under braking, accelerating, and shifting into reverse and sometimes drive i cant find the cause. has anyone had this problem or have any insight for me? any advise will be greatly appreciated thank you in advanced.

Need to check u joints and also the control arms. The 1st gen was bad about rusting the lower ones in half and axle moving back and forth in the wheelwell.

If what TobyU told is okay after checking it all then, Jack up the entire rear end off the ground and try moving your passenger back and forth really fast. If you get that loud chunking it could be the gears are wore the hell out.

it only really happens when its wet out as time went on it has gotten more noticeable i did look and my lower and upper tailing arms upper are lower are completely shot , i have my new lowers but its so rusted i cant bust them loose would the lower trailing arms cause this? and how much of a priory should this be as this is my only vehicle. i could cut them off but then i would need to find fords special bolts for it

i think my gears are good I haul stuff with a 14' trailer all the time there is no slipping/play or smell or anything i did just have a rear seal put in my axle the shop didn't say anything about concerns
