Needing to replace my front and rear struts on my 2015 XLT 2wd. Is there a different rear strut for the factory towing package? Thanks

Yes models between 15-17 (maybe other years as well) with the heavy duty towing package came with self-leveling nivomat strut assembly. I installed these on my 2017 XLT when the dampeners in the standard strut assemblies began to leak. The ford part number for the self leveling dampener is EL1Z18125A and the larger spring required is part number EL1Z5560A. IIRC, there are also some rubber boots required for the upper spring perch, but I can't find those numbers at the moment.

My 2017 Limited has HD Tow, but I don’t see any mention on either the window sticker or in the owners manual about self leveling rear shocks with heavier duty springs. How can I confirm it does or does not have them?

My 2017 with HD Tow doesn't have the Nivomats. I thought that went away in 2015? Might be prudent to check the vehicle brochure for each year and see if it's referenced there. Ford parts catalog might be useful as well.

Sorry for the late reply! It was 2018 when I researched and compiled my parts list so it's been a while, but I believe the higher trims with Continuously Controlled Dampening (CCD) and the HD tow package did not have the self leveling struts (for the 15-17 years, at least). If you had HD Tow on a lower trim level without CCD (like on my XLT), you would have the Nivomat Self-Leveling assemblies from the factory - apologies for not mentioning this in my earlier post. My 2017 XLT originally came with the standard suspension, which blew out after towing a 3,000 lbs trailer 10 miles. Oof!

Attaching a screenshot from our dealer catalog used by my old shop - this is the prompt to enter the suspension tab with a 2017 Ford Expedition selected:

These self leveling shocks look awesome. I don’t think my 2017 HD Tow has them. But how can I confirm yes or no for certain and If I don’ have them, can I just replace the current with them. I looked on the mfg website and it talks about not needing any electronics, that they are strictly mechanical devices

Did you ever figure this out? Wondering the same thing.
