My 1999 Expy developed a rod knock last year, I replaced all rod and main bearings, everything was right with the world. Last week, the knock returned. I can only hear it in park with the egine at idle, put her in gear and I can't hear the knock. No loss of power....5.4 with 187,000 miles on the clock. Should I have her rebuilt, buy a crate motor, buy a rebuilt one, a remanufactured.....try to keep it as inexpensive as possible, my wife is having a cow........:signs1:

To me, it would depend on what time frame you are looking at. If time isn't an issue I would pull the motor and take clearance measurements. Then with that info price the different options available. Also keep in mind the tranny may be showing some wear and tear.
Me, I would rebuild both.
