We went to get into the car. My wife opened her door and the running boards came out my daughter hopped onto the running board with the rear door closed and when my wife closed her door, the running boards retracted. I think it almost squished her foot but it came lose. Has anyone had this issue? Do the running boards have some sensor like the rear gates?

That should actually have made them STAY out. That is so you can use them with the doors closed.

How much does your daughter weigh? Maybe she was under the weight pressure threshold.

It doesn’t take much for the running boards to stop retracting, it wouldn't cause any type of crushing injury.

I had a similar event happen with my '18 Limited. My wife opened passenger side front door, my son opened passenger side rear. While the rear door was still open, my wife closed the front door..Running board retracted. I don't recall if he was on or off the running board at the time, but I do recall it scared him as it was so unexpected and he worried he could have had his foot crushed.
