In this case, they help equalize air pressure and minimize rush and drone noise/vibration. In my nav it helped distribute the sound better from the amazing sound system it had.

Do y’all really drive with windows down? I mean, I do it when the car doesn’t have AC but that’s the only time.

The rear vent windows are quite useful. For one thing, they render the issue of air buffeting moot. Just open the rear vents a touch and the cabin is nice and quiet. The other is, not all of us live in places that require AC all the time. Here in the northwest, the summer air is wonderful and refreshing all on its own. So yes, we do drive with the windows down. Often. And when we do need AC on hot days, about the fastest way to cool down the vehicle is to have those rear vents open for a bit and let the AC push the warm air out. They are useful. That's why I'm so surprised Ford removed them. A mistake for sure.

No they do not. I’m curious as to how helpful they could possibly be!!

They are AWESOME on mt 2010. When I open my window and the rear vent windows I get nice smooth flow through the cabin.

If I am hauling something stinky like gasoline or fertilizer the really help.

The design engineers have apparently abandoned features we have come to like. We have a ‘18 Platinum. Alas, no rear vent windows. Guess they thought with all the new gee **** stuff we wouldn’t notice what they left out.

I wonder if removing the rear power operated vent windows has anything to do with all the issues Ford had with exhaust fumes entering the cabin on the Explorer? Maybe they didn't want to risk an issue.

You could be onto something with this theory. The rear of these vehicles has a total dead spot in air and the exhaust could hang out back there. The deck lid on mine will carry dry draws clippings if I drive through them so it would make sense that it can trap other things like a gas.
