If I turn hard (like a 90 degree corner from a stop), the drive train binds similar to as if it was stuck in 4wd. It is AWD and it seems to be normal when driving straight.

What should I look for? Vacuum to front diff?

UPDATE:

Also, while straight line normal acceleration, I felt/heard what I thought was bearing related. Kind of a rough, grinding noise- but very subtle. I was envisioning front diff carrier or pinion bearings being pitted. Not a wheel bearing because turning while moving didn't change the pitch.

I searched the forum and found out about Fuse 104. I pulled fuse 104. Both my straight line noise and turning problem went away.

What does this indicate?

Is this the front axle vacuum shift system? Or transfer case shift motor?

Nope. It's been too rainy here and I've got a trip coming up that I've been preparing for.

MPGs seem to be up a little. That's nice.

My plan is to check the vacuum lines at the front diff and see if the actuator is moving fully.

Over on ford-trucks.com there seems to be some good topics on the issue.

Are there vacuum lines? I was under the impression that the A4wd trucks (1999.5 - 2002) did not have a front axle disconnect and were essentially live axles disconnected at the transfer case?

I just posted a very detailed thread over at ford trucks with the sa,e type of questions under the expedition section as I am also running into the same issue and there seems to be quite a bit of conflicting info.
