New to site but not new to Expedition nor to forums.

Just got a 2004 Eddie Bauer (I previously had a 2003 Eddie Bauer several years back) and it came with two issues:

1) Shift Indicator only moves from N to 1; will not move to P or R, though the actual shifter and transmission works fine with all gears.

Is there a DIY or guideline to fix this?

2) Sideview mirrors do not operate but everything else works.

According to the manual, fuse #3 protects the side mirrors plus "Driver seat switch (memory), and "Memory module (logic power)." I assume since my driver's power seat still works, that the fuse is still good (haven't actually checked it yet, but will confirm later today). Is this indicative of a faulty mirror control switch needing replacement?

TIA!

EDIT:

Also just discovered:

3) Keyless entry pad doesn't appear to work; the driver's door doesn't unlock after entering the factory code or other locks when 3•4 pressed after code, nor do the locks lock when pressing 7•8 and 9•0 simultaneously.

Remote FOB works just fine, however.

FYI, regarding mirrors, fuse #3 and #109 are both good.

If your power mirrors have the memory function check at the drivers seat module to make sure that the connector is completely plugged in.

Theres a safety lock in the shifter, you have to press and hold the brake with ignition on in order to shift it to R and P, and back. If that doesn't work, perhaps that locking mechanism, which is probably a solenoid of some sort, has an issue. Most likely wiring, haven't heard about these going bad before.

If you pull the switch Check on pin #1 the orange/light green wire to see if you have power to the switch That wire should have power at all times

There is a splice in that circuit that could be open.

The shift lever is able to engage the transmission correctly into both park and reverse; it's just the shift indicator that doesn't go to P and R, but goes to the other positions.

Oh, sorry about that. I didn't catch the word "indicator". :)

I guess you need to take the bezel off around the instrument cluster, then it should be easy to check the indicator. It's a quite simple set up

Drivers module is under the drivers seat. But as I suggested check at the switch for 12 volts If you have it there I would say the switch may be bad Can you read and understand wiring diagrams? Do you have meter?

When you are in drive what is the pointer indicating??

Selector Lever Indicator Adjustment
Remove the upper instrument panel steering column cover. For additional information, refer to Section 501-12 .
Place the transmission control selector lever in the (D) position.
Rotate the transmission control selector lever clockwise until it bottoms out (first gear), then rotate two detents counterclockwise ((D) position).
Hang a three pound weight on the transmission control selector lever.
Center the pointer in the middle of the (D) position.
Rotate the thumbwheel located on the bottom of the steering column to adjust the pointer.

Remove the three pound weight.
Carefully move the shift control selector lever from detent to detent and compare with transmission settings.
Readjust if necessary.
Install the upper instrument panel steering column cover. For additional information, refer to Section 501-12 .

Oh yea, I'm very well versed in wiring, schematics, and troubleshooting automotive electrical systems, and have a killer Fluke setup; just don't know my way around the Expedition.

Can the switch be pulled out without pulling the door panel? I suspect the switch more so than the driver's module personally.

I would think you can just pull the switch But I am not 100% sure

If you can't pull the switch the panel shouldn't be hard to remove

Front Door Trim Panel — Expedition
Removal and Installation

NOTE: Left front door shown, right front similar.

Remove the window control switch plate.
Use service notch and disconnect the electrical connectors.

Remove the door handle bezel.
Use service notch.

CAUTION: To avoid damage to the door trim panel, lift the door trim panel by pulling directly upward on the armrest to disengage the panel clips.

Remove the two bolts and three screws, and remove the door trim panel.
Remove the finish cover to access the two center screws.
Disconnect the electrical connectors.

Switch won't budge so the panel has to come off.

Out of time as moving day has arrived (moving from Cali to Texas) so I'll have to wait another day to troubleshoot it...

Just a follow-up:

I finally got around to troubleshooting the power mirrors and when I pulled off the door panel, discovered the mirror switch was completely unplugged. Reconnected it and it works fine.

The exterior keypad still doesn't work after checking its connections but I'm not going to replace or troubleshoot it further as I'm hoping to sell it shortly to get a new Expedition or F-150.

A warning to anyone needing to remove the door panel: the plastic catch-tabs that hold both the switch panel insert and the door handle bezel will probably break due to becoming brittle with age. Each item is about $30 new off eBay; more if purchased directly from a local Ford dealer.
