So I'm about to purchase a 2000 Expedition Eddie Bauer edition with 4x4 for $4800. It has 153,000 miles, and seems to be properly maintained. Its really clean, both inside and out, and everything works well, including the far back power windows. No leaks from the windshield, sunroof or any other windows and no apparent oil leaks.

Welcome and make sure you take it for a test drive. Also, don't forget to test the 4x4 as well.

CONGRATS!

Crawl on under the truck and get under the engine and transmission and spend some time there. If you own a handheld code scanner, look down under the dash below the steering and to the right and find the ODB2 port, will have a cover on it. Plug the scanner in and see if there are any codes there. Anything like a fuel injector or O2 sensor code gives you buying leverage $.

What does the antifreeze color look like? When was this last changed? If it hasn't been done then again $ less money as you will DEF need to ensure this is handled for the winter.

How much depth is on the break pads and tire tread? Are the rotors cracked or worn unevenly?

Does it have a spare tire under the back?

Does everything appear to work and function properly? Is there some grass around where you can engage the 4wd and see that is works?

Good luck on your purchase and we hope you'll stick around and participate in our love-hate relationships with our Ex's :D

I've never owned a ford, but this one stuck out on the lot, and had noticeably less rust than gm and mopar models of newer years there. I'm not new to trucks, but I've been spoiled with 3 forced induction vehicles, two are gone but I still have the gmc sierra. The other two were a '91 Nissan sentra and a '99 camry with a turbo job. The sentra probably got around 8mpg at best, but thats probably from the 1,000cc injectors and 35lbs of boost :p if I do get this truck, I can't guarantee it will stay n/a

Edit: everything shifts well, and there seems to be average underbody rust, I will bring the obdII scanner with me next time, trying to talk down the price... Also, brand new tires all around including the spare, dealer replaced them because they had dry rot. All fluids were also replaced, I guess thats why this used car lot has been in business since 1960..

That's a good sign and a family business that depends on repeat business and isnt on speed dial with the BBB is a good thing. And good on you with the lack of rust and corrosion. If you do buy it this might be an opportune time to undercoat the vehicle on the first clear day.
