I have an '05 EB with about 88K on it. Had it parked in the driveway for a week while I was traveling on business. Go to drive it when I get back and the steering is very heavy and notchy. Anyone else ever have a steering issue? How expensive do you think this is to fix? Oh and my extended warranty expired while I was out of town.

Never had this issue. Might want to check your Power steering fluid level to make sure it's not that.

I checked and added fluid...slightly low, but not enough to make much difference. Don't see a leak anywhere or dripping on the driveway. Driven for a week after adding fluid and it's still there. Mostly when making a full right or left turn from a stop or parking. I have no ideas and am dreading taking it in.

Trying the simple things first. I suctioned out all the fluid from the reservoir and added a can of Sea Foam Trans Tune. Ran the motor for about 30 minutes, cranking the wheel from lock to lock every few minutes. Then drove it around the neighborhood for bit. Found some cul-de-sac's to drive in circles in and work the steering. Seems to have helped a good bit. I think I will leave the sea foam in for a few more hours and every half hour or so run the motor for 10 minutes and turn the wheels to work the pump. Once I think it is as clean as it will get, I will flush it with 3-4 quarts of new fluid and top off. I'll update the post with the results.

What you will find is the u joints in the lower steering shaft that goes to the rack seize up and cause this problem.

Well I went back and sucked out the seafoam mixture and decided to refill with more seafoam just to thoroughly clean it. Seemed good for a bit, but when I let it sit, the wheel was notch again. I let round 2 sit overnight, then flushed it with 4 qts of mercron 5 and then ran 2 qts of Amsoil ATF into it. I know the pump is flushed and clean.

Not wanting to take chances, I sprayed the upper and lower u-joints with liquid wrench before flushing the system. When I was done, I sprayed them both with Amsoil Heavy Duty metal protector. Went for a test ride and everything seems great.

Can't say what the real issue was as I did the flush and u-joint cleaning at the same time, but I am betting more on u-joints due to the stiffness and notchieness coming back after sitting. The flush didn't hurt as the fluid was pretty dark so I should be good for good while.

Hope this helps someone in the future...now on to new COPS and fuel filter.
