Steering Stabilizer Kit

Recently when I had the brakes and new CV Joint replaced, they recommended adding a steering stabilizer. The guy who drove the truck around the block felt the walkabout.

The kits look like they average about $150 plus the labor, and that's what I was quotes by the shop.

My question is - are there any particular brands or consideration I should know about before adding this part? I don't know exactly what would need to be disassembled, but it seems to me that if you have to un bolt some steering stuff, it would also be a good time to replace some bushings etc.

My steering is so so easy, I can turn the wheel with a pinky, but I def get that feel that there could be more control and since I drive in rough country the steering stabilizer might also have added benefits.

I had a Rancho stabilizer on my truck. Super easy to install.

Rancho steering stabilizer too. Still have single finger control of the steering wheel. Install was easy too. Just have to unbolt the steering mount on the passenger side. The rest mounted to the steering arm itself. Do it yourself and save yourself the money. After you do it, you will be happy you did it.

Will a stabilizer eliminate some of the play in the steering. My truck has a decent amount of play but its not like a major issue. On a windy day though she sways a bit.

I think I'm going to do that then. I'm not a "wheeler" be any stretch but I do tend to put my vehicle in harms way and need all the support I can get.

In addition, I have aspirations of putting a r-e-a-l lift kit on, would that then eliminate the part?

splintrcel, check if your sway bar links have broke. I found mine broke about a year ago and before that I noticed my truck swayed even in light wind on the highway. Once I fixed those with some bolts from Fleet Farm, it cleaned that right up. Just a thought.

splintrcel, adding a steering stabilizer is not going to remove play. If you can turn the steering wheel some and the truck continues on the same line, then you have a problem most likely with the drop bracket. A steering stabilizer is most beneficial when you are out 4x4ing and you bump a rock (prevents the steering wheel from being ripped out of your hands) and also if you have larger wheels, it tends to not let as much of the wheel wobble make it to the steering wheel.
